RAD Recap for February 9, 2014

This past month has been emotionally and physically draining for me.  I’m not quite ready to get into all of the details about what has ben going on, but I can’t thank all of my amazing guests who have, and will continue to contribute to RAD.  Not only has it helped me stay on top of all things runDisney, but it has brought a whole new feel and community to this blog that I’m loving.  I hope you are too.

This week was all about Tinker Bell.  Kinnereth returned to recap her experience at the Tinker Bell Half Marathon last month.

Then Liliane recapped the same race, but as a first time half marathoner while running for the Special Olympics Team!

The more I read about this race, the more I want to run it.  It just looks like so much fun!

There were some interesting discussions around the runDisney blogosphere this week about how some race veterans are taking a break from running at Disney for a while.  I have to admit that I’ve had some similar feelings lately, especially when it comes to the increasing price, crowded courses and the community drama, but I’m not sure that I’m ready to give it all up just yet.  Take a look at Megan’s post on What’s Wrong with runDisney and Krissy’s post In Defense of Both Sides and let me know where you fit in.  I’d love the hear your thoughts on these issues…it’s a tough one.

In some positive news this week, I got a new car!!  It was sad to give up my beloved Gretta after 6.5 years, but a new beginning is just what I needed.

Also, we’re now less than 2 weeks away from Princess Half Marathon Weekend (my favorite!) and I finally got all of my travel details squared away.  Plus my MagicBands arrived, which makes it even more exciting!  Get ready for some shenanigans from me and my girl Amanda!

Many people have been asking me about an official RAD meet-up over Princess Weekend, but at this time I don’t think that I will be hosting one.  However that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to see, meet and hang out with as many of you as possible.  If you see me around, please stop me and say hi!  Tweet me, send me a Facebook message, or reach out on Instagram.  I will all over the World and would love to meet up!

  • My experience running this year’s Disney World 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon was entirely positive (I too decided to stop running marathons after that brutal 2013 Disney marathon).

runDisney made significant improvements this year. For example, gone was the huge crush of people walking to the corrals, as they called only a few corrals at a time. There were still a few bottlenecks along the course, especially after leaving the Magic Kingdom, but it was manageable.

Best of all, they finally re-paved that last 150 yards before the finish line, which was awesome for anyone not wearing shoes.

The expo felt less crowed because they moved many booths to the stadium. It was stunning to see all the people leaving the expo with their bags of New Balance shoes.

Overall the improvements were noticeable. I’ll be back next year.
