Another big week of runDisney news! The new 2013 Walt Disney World Half Marathon medal was revealed, which brings us even closer to the big reveal of the 20th Anniversary Marathon medal. I’m thinking it will be coming on Monday or Tuesday, so keep checking back here for more info.

This week I started my On Ramp with CrossFit Milford and I’m loving the challenge! Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for 4 weeks and they teach us the proper form for all the moves we will be doing in the regular classes and ease us into the workouts. CrossFit brings you back to the basics of fitness by using your own body weight for many of the exercises and simple weights for the rest. The Box (a nickname for CrossFit gyms) is very basic with no air conditioning and no fancy machines. It’s located in an industrial area in a large open room with garage doors wide open to the parking lot…makes those runs during workouts easy! On Thursday I did my first deadlift and according to the coach, I had fantastic form. I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would touch a barbell, let alone do a 65# deadlift. I’m loving being able to push myself and do things I never dreamed, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow’s workout will bring! However, the lack of air conditioning is making me rethink the choice of doing this in August. 😉 You can get full reports of all my workouts over on my DailyMile page.

Saturday: 3.16 mile run
I finally got in a run this week. I had been resting my legs from horrible posterior shin splints and after 8 days I felt like it was time to get back out there. I mentioned last week that I has bought some KT Tape and I thought this was the perfect time to give it a try. I followed the video instructions on their website to apply the tape and was instantly amazed at how it changed the positioning of my foot. The tape seems to pull the front of my foot down a bit and relieved some of the pressure on my shins. When I went to run, I had no pain…at all! I couldn’t believe it. I’m sure the rest, rigorous stretching, ice and cherry juice I’ve been drinking this past week have helped, but I was still shocked. The tape is meant to stay on for a week and is waterproof from showers. I’m going to keep it on for a few days and see how it goes. I’m just happy to get some relief!
So that was a great week! I’m feeling really strong and excited about getting into the best shape of my life. Slow and steady wins the race right?? Have a fab week and keep moving!
