Weekly Review
This week I started my On Ramp with CrossFit Milford and I’m loving the challenge!  Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for 4 weeks and they teach us the proper form for all the moves we will be doing in the regular classes and ease us into the workouts.  CrossFit brings you back to the basics of fitness by using your own body weight for many of the exercises and simple weights for the rest.  The Box (a nickname for CrossFit gyms) is very basic with no air conditioning and no fancy machines.  It’s located in an industrial area in a large open room with garage doors wide open to the parking lot…makes those runs during workouts easy!  On Thursday I did my first deadlift and according to the coach, I had fantastic form.  I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would touch a barbell, let alone do a 65# deadlift.   I’m loving being able to push myself and do things I never dreamed, and I can’t wait to see what tomorrow’s workout will bring!  However, the lack of air conditioning is making me rethink the choice of doing this in August. 😉  You can get full reports of all my workouts over on my DailyMile page.

Here’s my full week of training:

Sunday: Rest
Monday: CrossFit – 1 hour
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: CrossFit – 1 hour
Thursday: CrossFit – 1 hour
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 3.16 mile run

I finally got in a run this week.  I had been resting my legs from horrible posterior shin splints and after 8 days I felt like it was time to get back out there.  I mentioned last week that I has bought some KT Tape and I thought this was the perfect time to give it a try.  I followed the video instructions on their website to apply the tape and was instantly amazed at how it changed the positioning of my foot.  The tape seems to pull the front of my foot down a bit and relieved some of the pressure on my shins.  When I went to run, I had no pain…at all!  I couldn’t believe it.  I’m sure the rest, rigorous stretching, ice and cherry juice I’ve been drinking this past week have helped, but I was still shocked.  The tape is meant to stay on for a week and is waterproof from showers.  I’m going to keep it on for a few days and see how it goes.  I’m just happy to get some relief!

So that was a great week!  I’m feeling really strong and excited about getting into the best shape of my life.  Slow and steady wins the race right??  Have a fab week and keep moving!

  • I can’t believe I am JUST NOW finding this blog! I am also a Disney aficionado and developing distance runner who is considering running the Disney marathon in January! I just started blogging about Disney and my training, but have gotten discouraged because of some minor injuries … your posts are so inspirational as I try to get into the swing of things! Thank you for sharing and I can’t wait to read more! xx Katherine

    • Welcome 🙂 I’m glad you found it!! I look forward to reading your blog as well. Sounds like we’re having the same running journey…minor injuries and all! Are you doing any of the Disney races this fall?

      • Nope, no races this fall, and I haven’t even officially signed up for the WDW Marathon yet because I’m so nervous about getting some debilitating injury — but I see they just went back to early registration pricing, so I might just do it today! Ahh!

  • I’m so glad the KT Tape worked for you! I haven’t had a chance to get any yet…. stupid question: Where did you buy it? Do I need to order it online or can I find it at a local sports store?

Sounds like you are moving right along with getting in shape! That’s so awesome! Before you know it you’ll be one of those inspirational ladies who have awesome before and after pics!

BTW, I really would love to do a color run someday! Are there any near you? Maybe I could come down and we could do one together!

    great update Sarah!

    • I ordered it off of their website, but you should be able to get it in any of your local running stores. You can probably get more color options online. I really was amazing with how it worked!

I hope I can have some good after pics 🙂 I lost 6 pounds last week alone…that’s crazy!

The Color Run looks like a blast! The NYC one is sold out and there is one in NJ over Labor Day weekend. Those look like the only ones left on the East Coast this year 🙁
