RAD Reads and Weekly Review: July 22, 2012

Sadly it’s the end of the weekend already…do they seem to be getting shorter and shorter or is it just me??  The good thing about Sunday is that you can catch up on all of the RAD Reads from this week!

Running & Fitness Posts
Eat. Sleep. Run. Disney goes for a run around the Port Orleans Resorts.  They added some extra miles by looking at the resort map instead of just the jogging trail map…great tip!

For the Love of Disney Running held #DisneyRunFest2012 this week and had a great run around the Seven Seas Lagoon.

The Happy Runner tries out Un-Fueling for Fat Burning on Long Runs.  This is an interesting theory and it seems to have worked for her so far…something to consider.

Travel, Run, Eat looks back at her Marathon Year of training.  It’s a great reflection on how her training went and how to improve going forward.

Weekly Review
I’m back on track with my marathon training!  I got in the miles I needed too and overall I’m feeling good.  My ankle is still a little sore, but I’ve gotten really good about icing after each run and I’m still using the gel everyday.  The big issue earlier in the week was the heat and humidity.  It was HOT here in the northeast and that doesn’t make for good running weather.  For Tuesday’s run, I headed out at 6:30 am and it was about 75 degrees.  That temperature is fine, but it was the 1000% humidity that made it difficult.  It was like running through hot soup.  When I got home, I was dripping with sweat and my fingers had swelled up into little baby sausages.  The only nice thing was that it was a gorgeous morning on the CT Shoreline and it made the run go by faster with the beautiful scenery to look at.

Here’s my total week of exercise:

Sunday: Rest
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 2.82 mile run
Wednesday: Spinning – 1 hour
Friday: 2.9 mile run
Saturday: 5.65 mile run

Even though my running was back up this week, I slacked in the toning and strength training department.  Meaning I did nothing.  I need to find a way to combine both because I seem to do one or the other.  I strength train when I can’t run and then forget about it when I start running again.  I need to incorporate this at least twice a week to make my body stronger for this marathon.  Once again, I sound like a broken record…blech.

  • Thanks for the shout out! My fingers randomly swell up into mini sausages too once in awhile. Still trying to figure out exactly what causes it and how to make it go AWAY! 🙂 The heat has been kicking my butt lately so I definitely haven’t been running although I have all intentions to.

    • For me, it seems to happen in high humidity. It happens when I’m in WDW a lot. Even though you haven’t been running, it seems like you’re kicking butt in CrossFit…keep it up!
