After recently coming across a post on Alone in Walt Disney World about discounts on runDisney races for Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members, I knew I had to investigate this further. How could this be the first I was hearing about these discounts? I’ve run numerous runDisney races, I’m already registered for 2 more in the fall AND I’m a DVC member!
I immediately went to my DVC member home page and found this under the membership perks section:
New this year, Disney Vacation Club Members will receive a $10 discount off first-tier registration prices (available during an event’s earliest booking period) for all runDisney half- and full-marathon races (or $20 off the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend’s “Goofy Challenge,” which involves running both the half- and full-marathon races)!
This was news to me! When did this start? Why wasn’t any communication sent out about this? (Yes, I know I have a lot of questions.) I think this is something that a lot of DVC members would be interested in. It is posted on the DVC member home page at the very bottom, but how often do people look there? I know that I really only visit the site when I want to book a trip or check on a waitlisted reservation, so I wouldn’t necessarily see this.
This led me to wonder, would I be able to use this discount even though I’ve already registered for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-miler and the Wine & Dine Half Marathon? To find out, I sent an email to runDisney and asked them if they would refund the discount amount or issue me a credit since it seemed that this discount came out after I had registered for the races. I was surprised to receive an answer from within the hour that stated: We have forwarded your registrations along to the registration team to have them adjusted with the DVC discount. Please allow 2-3 weeks processing time. That absolutely exceeded my expectations and I couldn’t be happier with runDisney’s customer service.
So if you’re a DVC member and are interested in running a Disney race, make sure to visit your member page to get the proper discount code. And if you’ve already registered for a race, contact runDisney and get yourself that discount!
Discounted Running = Happy Running!
Update: On the morning of March 29th, I received my refund from runDisney! That 2-3 week processing time was less than 2 days! Very impressed 🙂
