As you can see there aren’t many options left if you’re planning on running Disney this year! If you’re looking for a longer race in 2013, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler looks to be your only option left. This will be the 2nd year of this race and it looks like Disney has been listening to our feedback from last year’s race. Check out this video that was released today:
I’m so glad to hear that they are improving on the entertainment from last year since that was severely lacking. Check out my race recap for more info…now if only they could guarantee it won’t be so hot! Today is the last day to register before the price increases to $165 tomorrow, so get too it! The medal is so worth it 🙂
Make sure to go to www.rundisney.com for more information on all the races or to register for an upcoming race. See you there!

Can you believe it? After just going on sale to the general public yesterday, the Disneyland 10K, Half Marathon, and Dumbo Double Dare Challenge are now SOLD OUT! Pre-registrations for the event weekend opened up at the Walt Disney World Marathon Expo on January 10th. This was also available at the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Expo and online for Disney Visa cardholders and Annual Pass holders.
The Disneyland 10K is a new race this year and was added by runDisney in direct response to runner feedback. Runners were looking for something a little more challenging than a 5K, but not as far as a half marathon. This addition of an alternate distance was first seen with the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler back in September.
With the new 10K also came the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge. This is like a mini Goofy Race and a Half Challenge where runners take part in the 10K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday. I think it’s a great new challenge without the craziness of a full marathon!
Almost immediately after registration opened at noon, the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge was at 80% capacity and the 10K was at 60%. I knew the races were going to be popular, but this was unprecedented! Dumbo sold out in less than an hour and the 10K sold out in about 3 hours. The Disneyland Half Marathon was hot on the tails of the 10K and at around 2:00 pm today it sold out as well. This is a stark difference from 2012 when the Disneyland Half Marathon sold out in about a month, which was also very fast. In less than 2 weeks the entire weekend is sold out this year, which is the fastest in runDisney history…2 WEEKS!
In a recent interview with Bob Hitchcock of Disney Sports Public Relations, he stated that runDisney is “overwhelmed by the response” and pleasantly surprised by the popularity of these races. They attribute the quick sellout to two things; the growing popularity of the brand and the new distance of the 10K that opened up the weekend to a whole new segment of runners.
Registrations are still available through various groups and charities. If you are still interested in running one of the races, you can find the list of participating organization here. At the time of this post, the Disneyland Family Fun Run 5K is at 64% capacity and the runDisney Kids Races are at 62%. These are a great way to get the whole family involved in race weekend, but be sure to sign up soon since those will most likely sell out quickly as well.
Did you get your registration in on time?
