There have been some rumblings around the interwebs over the weekend about how runDisney is dropping hints about the theme of the next Princess Half Marathon Weekend out on the course. I’ve done some digging and it seems that this is in fact true and I LOVE IT!
Where is this royal Easter egg you ask?? It’s on the Mile 13 marker! Check it out…
As luck would have it, I have a tradition of taking a photo at the Mile 13 marker when I run a half marathon. I did it during my first half marathon (Princess 2012) out of pure joy for making it that far, and have continued to do it at subsequent races. If you notice from the photo above, the mile marker is the same in 2012 and 2013, a general finish line image with all the princesses. This makes sense as there was no exact theme for the first 5 years.
But look…in 2014 the marker changes to Anna & Elsa. Guess what the theme for 2015 was? Frozen! Then in 2015, Ariel was on the Mile 13 marker and low and behold, The Little Mermaid was the theme this year!
So what Princess was on the Mile 13 marker this year?? Snow White!
If this theory is correct, this will be a fun new theme for 2017 Princess Weekend. She’s not my favorite Princess, but Snow White doesn’t get much love during this race weekend so should make for some fun medals. The dwarfs are perfect for the kids races!
Have you noticed this little Easter Egg? What do you think of Snow White being the main character theme for the 2017 Princess Half Marathon weekend?

Overall, I am more of a Disney theme park fan than a Disney film fan. I know this seems strange because what would the parks be without the films, but for me it is more about the experience and complete immersion that you get in the parks. So this month’s topic, Songs From Disney Animated Films, took a bit more thought rather than just having my choices pop right into my head. Well that is besides my Marry song…we all have our favorites 🙂
Kill – “A Smile and A Song” from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
I think it’s pretty clear that I’m not a big fan of Snow White. She was the Disney Princess I chose to refurb back in May. While I feel like she needs a good makeover, I would be very happy if this song was no longer in her repertoire. I love all of the cute little animals in this scene and how can you not wan to squeeze that adorable singing bird, but damn her voice is annoying! It’s borderline ear bleeding, it’s so shrill. No thanks!
Refurb – “What Makes the Red Man Red?” from Peter Pan
Yeah…this song is pretty racist and sexist. Well I guess that a lot of Peter Pan is when you look at it. Yes the world was a different place when this film was made over 60 years ago, but that still doesn’t make the song less offensive. I’m not sure if I had a kid that I would want them going around singing lines like “When the first brave married squaw he gave out with a big ugh, when he saw his Mother-in-Law.” I mean, it’s funny but probably not the best thing for kids to hear…well that and all the “Injun” talk.
Marry – “Everybody Wants To Be A Cat!” from The Aristocats
I mean obviously! Who wouldn’t want to be a cat?! I don’t just love this song because the message speaks to me, but it is also from my favorite Disney movie of all time! Scat Cat and the Gang sure know how to put together a great jazz song for Thomas O’Malley, Duchess and the kittens. It is fun and romantic all in one! You just can’t help but smile and dance with this one comes on. Now if we could only get it played in the parks more often, maybe with more characters from the film in a meet & greet???
Now before I get a ton of hate mail and angry comments…yes I am aware that there are some horribly racial and stereotypical aspects to this scene in the movie, but if you remove that and just listen to the song, it’s fun. And really, I love it because I really want to be a cat!
So those are my choices…what about you? What songs from Disney animated films would you Kill, Refurb & Marry?? Make sure to visit This Happy Place Blog, Mouse on the Mind and all of the other great blogs participating in Kill, Refurb, Marry today!

Now, I’m not a big Disney Princess kind of gal. Yes Disney’s Princess Half Marathon is my favorite race and I’ve definitely lived up to my name (Sarah mean Princess afterall!) over the years. However I’ve never actually related to any of the Disney Princesses. Well that is until more recently…let’s find out who.
Kill – Mulan
The main reason for this…Mulan isn’t actually a Princess at all!
Yes, she’s pretty badass and I love her message of female empowerment, but again…she’s not a Princess. She wasn’t royal by birth and neither was her husband General Li Shang. So why is she considered a Disney Princess? Is it just because female protagonists automatically need to become Princesses to feed the Disney cash cow? There’s something wrong with that…
Refurb – Snow White
Snow White…the original Disney Princess. She’s adorable, quaint and has some quirky friends, but really…can she be more naive?!
Girl…don’t take fruit from strangers!! And I mean, the dwarfs turned out to be ok, but that could’ve ended poorly as well. They may be small, but they out numbered her. I’d love to see a new Snow White…a stronger, more confident girl who doesn’t rely on Prince Charming to save her. Maybe something like Snow White in Once Upon A Time…she knows how to use a bow!
Marry – Tie: Merida & Anna
All of the reasons why I want to refurb Snow White, are basically why I LOVE both Merida and Anna. Let’s start with Merida…she don’t need no man!
She is strong, confident and a badass with the bow! She butts heads with her mother (who doesn’t at times!), but ultimately has a good heart and truly loves her family. She has all of the struggles of young girls today in terms of family and equality, yet comes out triumphant in the end. She was such a wonderful addition to the Princess Court.
Anna…oh how I love Anna.
She hasn’t technically been crowned as an “official” Disney Princess yet, but (unlike Mulan) it’s pretty clear in Frozen that she is royal through and through. She’s awkward, quirky and basically someone most of us can relate too. She is the Princess everyone can relate to and the one we all wish we could be…ok well I could deal better without the winter business, but you know what I mean 😉
So those are my choices…what about you? Which Disney Princesses would you Kill, Refurb & Marry??

The Tangled Royal Family 5K was the first of many events during the Princess Half Marathon weekend, and my 5 am wakeup call came a bit too early on Saturday morning. My flight the night before was delayed and my friend Amanda generously picked me up at the airport in the TinneyTaxi – my transportation for the weekend! By the time we had dinner, checked into our hotel the Orange Lake Resort, and got unpacked, I didn’t get to bed until around 12:15 am.
This was my third Disney 5K, so I had an idea of what to expect going in. Unlike previous years, I was relaxed and ready to enjoy the race. We arrived a little after 6 am and joined the masses in the Epcot parking lot. This was a little later than recommended by runDIsney, and by the time we arrived at the photo area, staff members had already closed off the line. I was bummed about it because I really wanted a picture with Maximus. How cool that they brought in a real horse!
Everyone squeezed into the starting corral about 10 minutes prior to the start, where I was glad to find my friend Jay in the corral, who was fabulously dressed of course. Rapunzel & Flynn Rider quickly counted us down and we were off!
My game plan for the 5K was to walk the majority of the course, take as many character photos as possible, and most of all have fun. I wanted to save my legs for the Princess Half the next day and not aggravate my ongoing hip injury.
The race started off through the Epcot parking lot, down a service road and in through the cast member parking area where you apparently are not allowed to text!
Along the way there seemed to be an attraction graveyard of sorts with old trams and boats. While backstage we also got a great view of the Test Track course.
This was my first Epcot 5k course and I was so excited when we entered World Showcase a little after 1 mile. I love how all of the Princesses were in their corresponding countries for photos ops! I’ve never stopped to get pictures with characters before because I was too concerned about time, but this time my friends and I brought in the rear of the race and took pictures with everyone we could! And yes, we were wearing tiaras.
It was not a record race by any means and I finished the race in 1 hour 14 minutes, my longest 5K by at least 30 minutes. But time doesn’t matter. I had a blast with my friends and saved enough energy to finish the half the next day. Oh and I was still able to reward myself with a Whispering Canyon Café skillet for breakfast afterwards…ooooh yeah!
I’d like to point out what a rockstar my friend Jillian is for continuing to complete 5Ks even at 7.5 months pregnant with Baby D! If that’s not motivation to get out off the couch, I don’t know what is! I love this picture of her coworkers at Mouse Gear coming to cheer her on!
I would also like to send a HUGE congratulations out to Kristen, Traci and Jackie for finishing their first 5k. I was so glad I was there to see you cross the finish line and give you a big ole sweaty hug!
