This is always a crappy week for me. 13 years have gone by and that one day still continues to have such a strong impact in my life. Each year gets better but it’s never easy. Much love to all my family and friends out there who have supported me through the years <3
Moving on to the lighter topics of Disney news. WTF is up with this Frozen attraction replacing Maelstrom business?? This is making me slightly irate! I love Frozen….no seriously, it’s one of my favorite Disney movies ever. Awkward Anna is like me in character form. However, a character based ride like this does NOT belong in the World Showcase. First, World Showcase is supposed to “showcase” (hence the name!) the culture of the countries…I’m pretty sure Arendelle is not a real place, so no. Second, can you imagine the bottleneck traffic this is going to cause?!?!?! Norway is not a large pavilion and Maelstrom even has queues that go out into the square. Can you imagine this business?!? Blech. This belongs in Fantasyland, NOT World Showcase.
OK, clearly I need to move on from my frustrations because I could go on for days! Let’s talk about the Disneyland Half Marathon! This week I featured 2 great recaps of the 2014 Disneyland Half Marathon. The first was from a back of the packer (like me!) who made some amazing friendships along the way. And the second was from a first time runDisney runner AND half marathoner…so fun to see this race through her eyes!
It’s hard to believe that it’s now less than two weeks until the Disney Fit Challenge. I’m going a little crazy that the WODs haven’t been announced yet, but hopefully that will happen in the next few days. In the meantime, to clearly NOT prepare, I’ve been indulging in some local food and drink. Yesterday, B and I went on another super fun Taste of New Haven tour where we sampled food and drink from some of New Haven’s best establishments, as well as learned a lot about the city’s rich history along the way. Oh and of course I had to take a photo with one of the locals…
Lastly, I want to hear from you. First, what Disney Parks Transportation would you Kill, Refurb or Marry? Any idea on where the monorail falls in my picks?
Then, I want to know how how you stay fit on vacation. My friend John LOVED the fitness centers at the Animal Kingdom Lodge during his most recent trip. I want to know what you do!
I also want to know who is excited about the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival! I know I sure am…it’s my favorite time of the year!! I’ve been studying the DFB Guide to the 2014 International Food & Wine Festival in preparation for my trip in 2 weeks and it is making me SO excited for all the new stuff I can try this year. Have you checked it out yet?
Make sure to come back this week as I will have more coverage of the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend and Hannah will have more tips from her Mission to Marathon series! Oh and I might have some Food & Wine Festival tips…I just can’t help myself but talk about all the foodie awesomeness!!
Have a great week!

Today I was able to get a small dose of Disney here in the Northeast. I met up with my friend Estelle from This Happy Place Blog to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1964 World’s Fair in New York…you know, the one where It’s a Small World and Carousel of Progress debuted?? This was a once in a lifetime experience!
We had a wonderful lunch and then made our way out to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. It was a gorgeous day (well except for my frequent allergy attacks!) and perfect to walk around this park. I’ll have a full report coming up this week for ya…but here’s me and my girl Estelle at the Unisphere 🙂
Also this weekend, B and I decided it was time to embrace summer even if it’s a little early. On Saturday, I woke up with the desire to sit in the sun and eat seafood 🙂 So we headed out for lobster rolls and ice cream…the perfect New England afternoon!
I’ve also been taking in a lot more of the local activities up here in CT which I talked about a lot this week on RAD Living. There was a great festival, the Westville Village Artwalk in New Haven last week. Then B and I had an amazing meal at at local gastropub called Walrus + Carpenter…a nice nod to the poem in Alice in Wonderland 🙂
So the big runDisney news this week was the announcement of the inaugural Disney Castaway Cay Challenge taking place after the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon weekend. I’m very curious to see how fast this event sells out. We shall see when it goes on sale this week on May 23rd. Are you go to take on the challenge?
In case you missed some of the fun here this week, Sandy joined us for the second installment of Transformation Tuesday…what a great story!
I played another game of Kill, Refurb, Marry with the Disney Princesses…can you guess which one I killed??
And I hope you will welcome John as the newest contributor to RAD, bringing a west coast perspective with his Anaheim Antics!
Coming up this week is another Transformation Tuesday, a super cool giveaway (let’s just say it will be fun to hang with it!), and maybe a few other pieces of Disney geekdom.
Have a great week!

Summer is here!! I can’t tell you how happy I am to be able to wear tank tops and flip flops on the regular. Woohoo!
It’s been a fun week. After returning from Vermont, I jumped right back into my training but also had some awesome culinary adventures. I dove into the goodies we brought home and made a few delicious meals.
On Friday, B and I went to our favorite restaurant Caseus in New Haven. Jason gave us a tour of their rooftop garden (super cool!) and I had some delicious Rohan Duck!
And finally Saturday, I met my friend Ali at Barcelona in New Haven for a girls dinner. If you don’t follow Ali on Instagram, you should…she’s quite inspiring! We stuffed our faces like proper ladies should 🙂
This week I also FINALLY booked our flights to California for Disneyland Half Marathon weekend, which has gotten me insanely excited to start planning! So I obviously had to run out and buy this:

This week I officially began my training for the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge. I really want to be in killer shape for this race and I’m going to put in the work this summer. Here’s how this week went and as always, to view a complete list of WODs, visit my dailymile page.
Tuesday: 1.61 mile run and CrossFit: Dead Lifts & Power Cleans
Wednesday: CrossFit: CG Bench Press, Running (1.5 miles) & Knees to Elbow
Thursday: 2.01 mile run with hill sprints and CrossFit: Sled Push/Drag, Turkish Get Ups & Air Dyne
The CrossFit WODs were killer this week and I think I used my weight in chalk to get through them…
My scheduled 5 mile run for yesterday didn’t happen, but I got it in today. Oh and it was a hot one!
I have a real problem with getting up early on the weekends to get my longer runs in. This is worse in the summer when it’s necessary to do so because of the heat. I like to sleep in and cuddle with the kitties on the weekend! Well today I didn’t get out until about 10:45 am and I definitely paid for it. The heat was a killer and my pace was WAY slower because of it. I really have to work on this!
A wrench is going to get thrown into my training this week because I’ll be traveling for a work conference for 3 days, but hopefully the hotel gym with be sufficient to get a good WOD in! I’m going to do my best to roll with the punches…
Fun stuff coming up this week on RAD…info on the runDisney Coast to Coast Challenge, a visit to Coral Reef Restaurant, and maybe I’ll start my Disneyland planning! Have a great week 🙂
How do you get up early on the weekends to run?

Being of Irish heritage, it should come to no surprise that St. Patrick’s Day is my favorite holiday! I love the food, the music, the drink, the festivities ..all of it! Hence why I am super bummed that I’ve been fighting a cold for the past few days and haven’t been able to celebrate. So I will be laying low today and maybe I will make my favorite Guinness & Bailey’s Buttercream cupcakes if I’m feeling up to it later 🙂
Thankfully I attended the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade last Sunday and got my Irish on. My girlfriends from CrossFit and I headed in by train and were immediately greeted to the drunk crowds. I was quite the scene leaving the New Haven train station.
We went to a few bars and caught a bit of the parade, but mainly we were entertained by the craziness that was taking place.
Overall we had a great time and a lot of laughs!
How are you celebrating St. Patrick’s Day?
In case you’ve been busy this week, here’s what you might have missed on RAD:

This week has been seriously lame in the workout department and I’m almost embarrassed to post my weekly recap. Don’t judge… You can see my full WODs on my page on dailymile.
Sunday: 4 mile walking
Monday: CrossFit: Dead Lifts, Push Press, Running (1/2 mile total)
Fingers crossed this cold goes away soon…I seriously hate being sick. I missed out on some really great WODs last week because of it. Yes, I’m having a pity party…
It’s also no secret that I’ve really been lacking the running front. I can blame it on the weather, my schedule, whatever…but what it really comes down to is my continued battle with motivation. It is so hard for me to get out of bed early or put my laptop down and put my sneakers on. I know how great I feel after a run, but I know that actually running isn’t my favorite thing in the world. It’s hard, it’s grueling, it’s painful at times and so often those things are what come in the forefront of my mind, not the feelings of exhilaration, accomplishment and strength that come AFTER a run.
I’m hoping that with spring right around the corner and now that the days are getting longer, I will have a renewed motivation to get out there. I struggle with the winter months and just wanting to hibernate in my house, so I am hopeful those extra hours of sunlight will give me the boost I need!
Do you struggle with motivation?
