RAD Recap for May 11, 2014

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there!  Enjoy your day and treat yourself to something special…you deserve it!

It’s been a good week around here.  Now that spring has finally sprung, I’m trying to go to as many local events as possible.  Last week I went to the Milford Harbor Duck Race, which was quite entertaining and then I walked around the Westville Artwalk this weekend.  I love getting out to these events and supporting the community….there is so much cool stuff going on here in CT!

Thankfully we had no issues with the house this week and I think my adventures in home ownership are coming to an end.  I also got some crazy workouts in this week and I’m really starting to push myself again with heavier weights and not taking the easy road.  Who cares if it takes me longer to finish…I’m getting stronger!

Crossfit-Gear

This week I debuted a new series on RAD called Transformation Tuesday after being inspired be so many of you out there who have transformed your life through running at Disney.  I wanted to create a place for you to share your stories and inspire others.  Liz kicked off the series with her story…just look at her transformation!

Danielle was back this week with another installment in her Yoga for Runners series!  She featured my favorite recovery pose, Legs Up The Wall…you must try this!

Tinker Bell Half Marathon Moves to May in 2015

runDisney recently announced that for 2015 the Tinker Bell Half Marathon will be moved to Mother’s Day Weekend, May 7 – 10.  I’m sure this comes from a lot of feedback from runDisney fans that the current date of the race in January is too close to the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.  With the addition of the Dopey Challenge, it would be a lot for people to attempt to participate in both weekends.  However I know there are some of you out there who are doing it… 🙂

There is a bit of a downside to this change as can be seen in the comments on the Disney Parks Blog.  First is the potential for heat.  After the very hot weather over Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend this year, having the race too close to the summer months is a concern.  However, the average temperature for Anaheim in May is only 78 so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Next issue is the actual time of year.  May is a busy time of year for for many families, particularly with graduations.  Also, Mother’s Day poses as an issue for many who want to spend that time with their children instead of running a race.  I know many see this as a “girl’s weekend” without bringing the entire family.  This may change things.

Personally, I don’t have an opinion either way.  I see pluses and minuses for each date.  I am not a mother, but I do see how that weekend can pose a BIG issue for those who are.

Now I just need to book my flight and get a hotel room (fingers crossed my DVC waitlist comes through!) and they will be mine!  Oh yeah and run 19.3 miles 😉

Weekly Review
Something about the Long Branch Half Marathon seriously lit a fire under my ass.  I came home and put together a training plan for the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge and hit the ground running…literally.  So I got 5 workouts done in 3 days and feel really great.  I’m just hoping I can keep this motivation up!

This upcoming weekend I’m heading to the Reebok Headquarters in Canton, MA to cheer on the team from CrossFit Milford (#1 in the Northeast BTW!) at the Northeast Regionals of the CrossFit Games.  It’s going to be a super fun event so keep an eye out for all my updates!  I’ll be sporting my CFM gear so if you are going…make sure to say hi!

Happy Mother’s Day

Wishing all of you mothers out there a very Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you are all being treated like the queens you are 🙂

Extra special love and gratitude goes out to my mom and step-mom. Two amazingly strong and caring women in my life. They are my role models and my inspiration. I could never be the person I am today without their love and support. They encourage me everyday to keep pushing forward and reach my goals. I love you!
