Kill, Refurb, Marry: World Showcase Counter Service Spots
March 12, 2014 | Posted by Running at Disney under Kill, Refurb, Marry, WDW Restaurants |
It’s time for another Kill, Refurb, Marry! I’m excited about this month because we are talking about my favorite thing…FOOD! Yes, that is a huge topic when looking at all of Walt Disney World, so we are narrowing it down to World Showcase Counter Service Spots. Ooooh that’s a good one, right?! I love World Showcase for its diversity and the food really is the best part…you know how I love the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival 🙂 So let’s dive in!
Kill – Refreshment Port
I don’t understand the Refreshment Port. It really seems to have no identity. The current menu consists of chicken nuggets, a soft serve waffle cone, croissant doughnut, and various beverages. That’s a little random… If I was a newbie to WDW and walked past there, I would have no idea what they served. To me, refreshments are cool and well, refreshing. Chicken nuggets aren’t refreshing. This spot would be much better utilized as a character meet & greet area, or simply put some benches and tables down for people to rest their weary Epcot touring feet in the shade.
Refurb – Tied: La Cantina de San Angel and Liberty Inn
I had a tough time deciding which location I would want to refurb, so I decided to go with two.
First is La Cantina de San Angel. Yes, I know it went through a refurb not too long ago, but I wish it would’ve been just a bit better. The tacos are a great start, but they definitely leave something to be desired. And really, nacho cheese on the nachos? Come on… Plus, those red chips really freak me out. That color can’t be natural! Give us simple carnitas, real cheese and basic yellow corn tortilla chips! Give us a real taste of Mexico!
And then there is Liberty Inn. This was a strong contender for Kill, but I think there is a real opportunity here to showcase some great American cuisine! American food should not be defined by a chili-cheese dog, chicken nuggets and a burger. Wouldn’t it be great if they could focus on local cuisine?! Maybe a combination of the Florida Local from the Food & Wine Festival and The Smokehouse from Flower & Garden. Sounds good right? Or maybe a dish from various regions of the US. There are so many options!
Marry – Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie
Now this is what all World Showcase Counter Service Spots should strive to be! First, the exterior is so incredibly inviting. You really escape into a small French village.
But when you enter the building, it is spacious and more importantly smells delicious. There is a large variety of options from the basic croissant, to sandwiches, quiches, and the most delectable desserts. Good luck trying to pick just one thing!
And if all of that isn’t enough, you can head over to L’Artisan des Glaces next door for some artisan ice cream or sorbet. You can even get an ice cream martini!! It really is the perfect place to grab a snack and take a break.
So those are my choices…what about you? What World Showcase Counter Service Spots would you Kill, Refurb & Marry?? Make sure to visit This Happy Place Blog, Mouse on the Mind and all of the other great blogs participating in Kill, Refurb, Marry today!
Kill, Refurb, Marry: Live Musicals in the Parks
February 12, 2014 | Posted by Running at Disney under Kill, Refurb, Marry |
This month’s theme for Kill, Refurb, Marry is Live Musicals in the Parks. I’m really not a fan of live shows. I’m not quite sure what I don’t like exactly, but I think I just enjoy “moving” attractions more and would rather spend my time there. But even though they aren’t my favorite, I do appreciate them and try to see each show at least once. You have to try everything at least once, right?? Ok so here are my picks…
Kill – The American Idol Experience
Ok, this one I haven’t actually seen. I do NOT enjoy American Idol, so I can’t imagine spending my precious park time watching a live version. The location is prime real estate for something awesome to lived up the Studios…so come on Disney, AI is totally past it’s prime!
Refurb – Beauty and the Beast – Live On Stage
This might not be a fair assessment since I haven’t actually seen this show, but the reasons why I haven’t seen it are why I feel it needs a refurb. Basically it’s the uncomfortable looking bleacher seats and the outdoor venue that keep me away. Sitting on hot metal doesn’t seem like a comfortable way to spend an afternoon. Also, I think since I’ve seen the full Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, I don’t really feel the need to see this abbreviated version. However if they moved it to an indoor venue (say the AI theater!) then maybe I would be more inclined to see it.
Marry – Finding Nemo – The Musical
Even though I feel this show is a bit long, it is gorgeous. The puppetry, the music, the sets…it all works so perfectly together. I love the story of Finding Nemo…the theme is sweet and the humor is wonderful. To see it live on stage with those larger than life puppets is just amazing. I have to say that crush is probably my favorite 🙂
So those are my choices…what about you? What live musicals in the parks would you Kill, Refurb & Marry?? Make sure to visit This Happy Place Blog, Mouse on the Mind and all of the other great blogs participating in Kill, Refurb, Marry today!
Kill, Refurb, Marry: Thrill Rides
December 11, 2013 | Posted by Running at Disney under Disney Parks, Kill, Refurb, Marry, Walt Disney World |
This is one of my favorite series from two of my favorite Disney Bloggers, Estelle from This Happy Place and Melissa from Mouse on the Mind. It’s so fun to see all of the different opinions on what people love and hate don’t love about the Walt Disney World Resort! It’s also a great way to discover new blogs through the blog hop…so make sure to check those out!
This month we’re taking a look at thrill rides in Walt Disney World. This is a tough one! I’m a big fan of most of the WDW thrill rides, particularly because of the high level of detail. These attractions submerge you into the surroundings and you often forget about the crazy thrills that lie ahead until they are right upon you making it all the more thrilling! Let’s get started:
Kill – Mission: SPACE
My dislike for this attraction is twofold. First, it is INSANELY claustrophobic. From the moment that they close that door (or is it a wall?) until the end of our trip to Mars, I am filled with anxiety. The screen is too close to my face, I can’t see what’s going on around me and the G-Force is very uncomfortable. Oh and the fact that an attraction has barf bags never sits well with me.
Second, it replaced my beloved Horizons. From Jules Verne to Brava Centauri, I loved every moment of this attraction and still lament it’s departure every time I am in Future World.
Refurb – Splash Mountain
When this attraction first opened, I couldn’t get enough of it. I think at one point in the early 90s I rode it 6 times in one night and was significantly soaked for the trip back to the hotel.
Since the attraction is now over 20 years old, it is starting to show it’s age. There always seems to be something that isn’t working, the details are fading and it just doesn’t have the pizzazz that it originally did. Also, the addition of those lap bars have made the seats very small and uncomfortable. I mean really, were those necessary?!? Overall, it could just use a complete overhaul to liven it up a bit.
Marry – The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Yes, I know this is shocking! OK, not really…this was an obvious choice for me. Unlike Splash Mountain, this attraction has only improved with age. The way it continues to eerily loom at the end of Sunset Boulevard building on your suspense as you approach the attraction. The dust over the years can only add to the creepiness of the hotel lobby. The addition of the random drop sequences leaves you anticipating what will come next! Everything, all the details…it’s just the perfect thrill ride!!
I also have a soft spot for this attraction because it is the first one that B and I ever rode together and we got this awesome pic!
Now it’s time for you to play along! Here is the full list of all of the thrill rides at Walt Disney World. What are your choices for thrill rides to Kill, Refurb, Marry??
