First Look at the 2016 New Balance runDisney Ariel Vazee Pace!

Ariel Vazee Pace

The 2016 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is almost here, which means it’s time for the latest designs in the New Balance runDisney Collection!  I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peak at the new collection and get a close up look at the Ariel Vazee Pace.  These shoes are SO CUTE!!!  Let’s check them out.

First, we need to give some attention to the all new packaging for the collection…I am VERY impressed! This is a box you will have trouble throwing away.

The outside is nice, but when you open the box, there is so much more to look at then just the amazing shoes!

There’s a little surprise UNDER the shoes…

Those are some cute shell clips to go with the Ariel theme and a fun 2016 New Balance Guide to runDisney. More on the Guide later….let’s look at those shoes!

The Vazee Pace is a neutral running shoe that provides lightweight support with it’s REVlite foam to keep you energized through every stride.  It was even awarded “Best Debut” by Runners World Fall Shoe Guide and named “Best in Class Light Trainer/Racer” by Triathlete Magazine.

While the shoes will get you swiftly across the finish line, it’s the detailing that will really make you fall in love with these shoes.  The colors perfectly match Ariel’s and the wave like texture gives it the perfect Under The Sea feel.

They are even signed by The Little Mermaid herself!

Oh and remember those clips?  How cute are they on the shoes?!

I haven’t had a chance to take these out for a spin yet, but I tried them on and walked around a bit and they sure are comfy.

Back to the 2016 New Balance Guide to runDisney that was included in the box.  This was a fun little addition that not only gives you more information on all of the new shoes that are being released this year, but also provides additional information about the races themselves.  There is even a 52-week journal to track your training for your upcoming races…how cool is that?!

The Ariel Vazee Pace along with the new Dumbo Vazee Pace and the Red Carpet Mickey & Minnie 860v6s will be available starting tomorrow, January 6th at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Health & Fitness Expo.  To minimize waiting in line for shoes, New Balance has created a virtual queue to let you know when it’s your turn. If you are running in any of the races over Marathon Weekend, you can sign up at www.NBVirtualQueue.com using your bib number starting Wednesday, January 6th at 6:00 am EST. Once you sign up, you will be sent a time via text/email to arrive at the Expo to get your shoes.

All other guests can sign up Thursday, January 7th, Friday, January 8th and Saturday, January 9th starting at 6:00 am EST each day.  Be sure to visit NBvirtualqueue.com to get all the details on reserving a pair and pick-up.  These shoes are sure to be in high demand and will most likely sell out, so makes sure to set your alarms to reserve your space!

The Dumbo and Ariel Vazee Pace will be available for $124.95, while the Red Carpet Minnie and Mickey 860v6s will be available for $139.95. In addition, a kids Dumbo and Ariel 860v6 will be available for $79.95.

What do you think of the 2016 designs and the Ariel Vazee Pace?  Will you be picking up a new pair of kicks this week??

Cigna Blogger Cook-Off During Marathon Weekend!

Besides missing all the races during big runDisney race weekends, there are so many other great events that I was pretty bummed to miss out on.  Like the Cigna Blogger Cook-Off, it sounded SO FUN!  Cooking in Disney with a bunch of running bloggers!  Well since I couldn’t attend, the first person that popped in my head was RAD contributor Hannah from Mission to Marathon.  I knew she would have a blast and it looks like she did…check it out!

I was really excited to have the opportunity to attend the Cigna Blogger Cook-Off at Walt Disney World Marathon event!

The event was held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at one of the outdoor tent/pavilion areas. Normally at Disney this would be an awesome location. Unfortunately, mother nature swooped in and gave us some chilly, damp weather that made it pretty cold and icky to be outside. But, cheers to CIGNA and Disney for finding some great blankets for everyone to use to keep warm!

I was a little nervous because this was my first blogger event and I didn’t know anyone, but everyone was very friendly and two other bloggers came and sat down with me. Smitha, from FauxRunner.com was super nice. I forget the other woman’s name (I should learn to write things down, or take phone notes, oops!). Smitha was running Dopey and sounded a lot like me when I say, I’m not a runner, I just run, haha!

The event started with an intro and some info from Pascale Jean, Cigna’s Health Promotion Manager and nutritionist. She was great to hear speak and offered some tips on getting to the finish, especially if you were doing Dopey.

We were then divided up into teams and assigned a chef from Disney. Our Chef was PJ who gave us lots of tips and told us all about being a Disney chef. He said he was working the Race Retreat and was telling us how they had to prep all the food overnight so it was ready for the morning. The food sounded so good! Maybe I’ll try race retreat for my next race?!

We were given a “mystery” protein at each group and ours’ had beef. We got working pretty quickly and decided to do a beef stew (at the suggestion of PJ). There were tables with herbs, spices, starches, and vegetables. I was a little surprised I didn’t see potatoes. Up here in Pennsylvania, beef stew has potatoes in it, haha.

We ended up with a delicious beef stew made with red wine, herbs, and vegetables. On the side we had pan roasted vegetables and some rice. It smelled sooo good and tasted just as delicious. Two of the people in my group were from Pennsylvania so it was really cool to meet someone from home when I was so far away. Funny how that happens so often, right?

Because of the cold we ended up huddling around the cooking food to keep warm. Everyone was very friendly and talking about their races, training, food, and their blogs.

The other groups had vegan/vegetarian protein (not sure what that was because they didn’t have a lot so it didnt’ end up on the final buffet), shrimp, chicken, pork, and turkey.

Everything turned out so good! Once we were done cooking, Chef Mickey showed up for some photo ops! Yay for Chef Mickey!

Cigna-WDW-Marathon-Event-13

By then everything was done cooking and on the buffet so we could finally eat (I was starving)! Yum! The blogger prepped foods were very good and the buffet also included some rolls, salad and finished off with a chocolate chip bread pudding (sooo good) and berries.

Cigna-WDW-Marathon-Event-15

Before we left they handed everyone a gift bag with some Cigna branded products (chap stick, band-aid packet, etc) and a Disney Gift Card.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend this event. It made me feel re-invigorated and want to blog more, but also to seek out more bloggers to follow. I have my staples, but I’d love to read about what other people are doing.

Cigna-WDW-Marathon-Event-1

By the way, Cigna was promoting healthy lifestyle choices and celebrating the things that get runners to the start and finish line by using the Blippar App to Blipp images during the race weekend. I’m new to the whole Blippar thing so I’ll be spending some time figuring it out, but it looks pretty cool!

Thanks Cigna for a really cool event and thanks to Sarah for inviting me to attend!

WOW…that’s a lot of stuff!! As with most runDisney expos, it’s best to get there as early as possible if you have your heart set on certain items since they tend to sell out quickly.  It’s hard to pick favorites out of all this great merch, but I’d have to go with the entire runDisney glass set, the aqua Marathon hoodie and BondiBand, and the pink Goofy pullover hoodies as my favorites.  What will you be getting over Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend??

Mission to Marathon: Packing for a RunCation

I can’t believe the time is almost here for Hannah to take on the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge!!  It seems like just yesterday when she wrote her first Mission to Marathon post on putting her training plan together for this race weekend.  Boy time sure does fly!  Well as she is continuing to taper, she is getting ready to leave for Walt Disney World and she is here with some great packing tips for a RunCation!

Best of luck Hannah and we can’t wait to see you get all that runDisney bling in a few short weeks!

***

Holy Moly, can you believe its December! And, halfway through at that!? Time is flying…I would know. I turned 30 on the 5th and it just came and went and wow…I can’t believe I’m in my 30s now! But enough about me, here’s some info on how to get yourself all packed up and read for your Disney RunCation! This post is highly focused on those flying into their destination, but modify as you will for those driving/train-riding/etc.

[Side note that I’m still in my temporary living arrangements so I wasn’t able to dig out the suitcases (in storage) or do a big full Disney packing photo montage. Sorry!]

First things first…

BEFORE you pack anything, check the weather and then check it again, and again, and possibly plan for weather different than what you’re anticipating…Florida is notorious for drastic weather changes.

Your Race Day gear is the MOST important thing you’ll pack. I strongly recommend laying out the clothes, socks, shoes, underwear, etc that you will need for the actual race before you do anything else!

IMG_9895

Pack your race day gear into your carry-on luggage. You do not want this getting lost.

Next up I add in my cover-wear (my throw-away clothes).

IMG_9896

And finally I add in all my race “extras.” Things like my sunglasses, my running belt, compression socks (for after the race), gels, etc…

IMG_9898

IMG_9899

You can use your discretion with what is “essential” for race day to determine what needs to go in your carry-on. The rest can go in checked luggage.

Here’s all my race stuff laid out, ready to be packed!

IMG_9900

Once your race day gear is packed, you will have a better idea of how much room you’ll have for other stuff and how much luggage you’ll need.

When I pack for Disney I tend to know ahead of time what park I will be visiting. I then plan my clothing accordingly. I will typically pack one black pair of shoes and one blue pair of shoes and then make sure all of my clothing matches one of the two pairs of shoes. For each day I lay my clothes out like this:

IMG_9901

Once I get my whole trip laid out I will pack it all into my luggage.

This trip will be a bit interesting as we are flying with a new airline and are limited with both carry-on and checked luggage (ugh, don’t these new airline luggage rules stink?!). Between the hubs and I we are planning for one carry-on, one checked bag, and two personal items. Make sure to check your airline for their restrictions and guidelines before you start packing.

I hope this helps you out and allows you some relief from the packing stress!

Things to remember about packing for a running vacation (because we all know I can’t resist a list):

1 – No NEW is good NEW… pack the stuff that’s tried and true for you. This is not the time to find out that the cute new top chaffs like no other.

2 – Extra shoes if you’re running multiple races. You do not want to be starting out a marathon with soggy shoes because it rained the day before.

3 – Check out the expo and race info online before you go to see if they’ll have the gels/fuel you like. If not, pack some from home!

4 – Don’t freak out if you forget something. While its not ideal to wear new shoes for a race, it can be done. Don’t let missing something in your packing add additional stress where its not needed.

5 – HAVE FUN. If you’re running a Disney race, then you will definitely have a good time. But don’t let PR’s or PB’s, or PD’s, or anything else get in the way of enjoying your race. 99% of us are not running for a place in these races, so just remember to have fun with it!

Here is my January 2014 Run Training Plan:

**RACE WEEK!**

28 – Week Jan 5: Tuesday and Thursday 45 mins; Saturday 13.1; Sunday 26.2

Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday – long stretches

29 – Week Jan 12: Tuesday and Thursday 45 mins; Saturday 3 miles

29 Alternate: Walk Disney Parks!

Stretch, Stretch, Stretch and then stretch again. 🙂

30 – Week Jan 19: Tuesday and Thursday 45 mins; Saturday 3 miles

31 – Week Jan 26: Tuesday and Thursday 45 mins; Saturday 3 miles
