Probably the best part about runDisney race weekends is all of the exclusive merchandise available at the Health & Fitness Expo. There’s nothing like having some great commemorative items to take home with you to remember your big accomplishment!
Princess Half Marathon Weekend is right around the corner and there are some great new items you’ll be able to pick up. Let’s check them out!
Frozen has taken over as the main theme of the weekend and you can find snowflakes and characters on many of the items. There is also the addition of a pink runDisney Magic Band to go with the blue design that was introduced over Marathon weekend.
This is the 2nd year for the Glass Slipper Challenge and they have knocked it out of the park with these turquoise and black designs. I just LOVE that wine glass!
Ahhh BondiBands…my running must have! Look at all of designs you’ll have to choose from!
Another new addition to the race merchandise are these fun phone cases…looks like they can be customized too!
And of course, no Princess Weekend would be complete without the ultimate accessory, a Disney Dooney & Bourke purse! These new Princess designs are whimsical and fun…perfect for this royal event.
Earlier today, New Balance released NEW design in their runDisney collection that will be release over Princess Half Marathon weekend. Over Marathon Weekend the new Steamboat Willie inspired 990v3 shoes and now they are introducing 860v5’s in similar designs and capturing the spirit of the Sorcerer Mickey and Pink Polka Dot Minnie designs from the 2014 collection.
The shoes will only be available at Health and Fitness Expos during the runDisney event weekend. To minimize waiting in line for shoes, New Balance has created a virtual queue to let you know when it’s your turn to be fitted and make your purchase. Starting on Thursday, February 19, starting at 6 a.m. runners can sign up at NBvirtualqueue.com using their bib number. Non-runners can sign up daily, pending inventory.
Are you excited about the new designs or are they leaving you feeling a little grey??
As a reminder the Fit for a Princess Expo will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the hours are as follows:
- Thursday, February 19th, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm
- Friday, February 20th, 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
- Saturday, February 21st, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
If you are an AP holder or DVC member you may be eligible for discounts at the Expo, so don’t forget to bring your cards and always ask! New Balance shoes generally do not get discounts.
What are you looking forward to getting this year??

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend is coming back for its 2nd year and is now open for registration! The race weekend has been pushed back a week this year to October 4 – 5, 2013. Hopefully temperatures will be cooler that week.
Exact times aren’t listed yet, but if the details remain the same the nighttime race will begin at 10:00 pm in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, taking runners to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and back to the Studios. Runners will re-enter the park at the Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show, wind through the Streets of America and finish in the shadow of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
The race is followed by the Disney Villains Hollywood Bash, which will begin at 10:30 pm. Spectators can purchase tickets to this party and enter before the race is over. Not only will runners and spectators have exclusive access to the Studios, but most headliner attractions will be open. The attractions include: Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (obviously), Star Tours, Muppet-Vision 3D, The Great Movie Ride, and Toy Story Mania! I’m hoping that some changes will be made to the party for 2013 since it was VERY crowded in the inaugural year.
Also taking place on the race weekend is the Disney Happy Haunted 5k Trail Run and Kids Races, both of which will be taking place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Pricing for the events are as follows (these events sold out VERY quickly last year, so register soon!):
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10-Miler
- $135 by March 26, 2013
- $150 between March 27 and May 21, 2013
- $165 on or after May 22, 2013
Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run
- $50 per participant
runDisney Kids’ Races
- $10 per Kids Dash participant
- $30 per 1-Mile Run participant
Disney Villains Hollywood Bash
- $54 by May 21, 2013
- $64 between May 22 and September 4, 2013
- $74 on or after September 5, 2013
If you participated in last year’s event, you will notice a significant price increase. A $45 increase to be exact. I’m going to look into this further, but we can only hope that this means more entertainment on the course and maybe some improvements to the after party. But still, that’s a significant increase. I’ve been thinking twice about registering this year and this might be the thing that makes my decision not to.
As usual for most runDisney events, packet pick-up will be required at the race Expo held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex beginning October 4, 2013. Visit the runDisney event page for more information on all of the events taking place that weekend.

Can you believe it? After just going on sale to the general public yesterday, the Disneyland 10K, Half Marathon, and Dumbo Double Dare Challenge are now SOLD OUT! Pre-registrations for the event weekend opened up at the Walt Disney World Marathon Expo on January 10th. This was also available at the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Expo and online for Disney Visa cardholders and Annual Pass holders.
The Disneyland 10K is a new race this year and was added by runDisney in direct response to runner feedback. Runners were looking for something a little more challenging than a 5K, but not as far as a half marathon. This addition of an alternate distance was first seen with the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler back in September.
With the new 10K also came the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge. This is like a mini Goofy Race and a Half Challenge where runners take part in the 10K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday. I think it’s a great new challenge without the craziness of a full marathon!
Almost immediately after registration opened at noon, the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge was at 80% capacity and the 10K was at 60%. I knew the races were going to be popular, but this was unprecedented! Dumbo sold out in less than an hour and the 10K sold out in about 3 hours. The Disneyland Half Marathon was hot on the tails of the 10K and at around 2:00 pm today it sold out as well. This is a stark difference from 2012 when the Disneyland Half Marathon sold out in about a month, which was also very fast. In less than 2 weeks the entire weekend is sold out this year, which is the fastest in runDisney history…2 WEEKS!
In a recent interview with Bob Hitchcock of Disney Sports Public Relations, he stated that runDisney is “overwhelmed by the response” and pleasantly surprised by the popularity of these races. They attribute the quick sellout to two things; the growing popularity of the brand and the new distance of the 10K that opened up the weekend to a whole new segment of runners.
Registrations are still available through various groups and charities. If you are still interested in running one of the races, you can find the list of participating organization here. At the time of this post, the Disneyland Family Fun Run 5K is at 64% capacity and the runDisney Kids Races are at 62%. These are a great way to get the whole family involved in race weekend, but be sure to sign up soon since those will most likely sell out quickly as well.
Did you get your registration in on time?

Registration is now open for the 2013 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend!! The festivities will be taking place August 30 – September 1, 2013 and I couldn’t be more excited! This race weekend will be my first trip to Disneyland and what better wat to celebrate than by getting my Coast to Coast medal!
This year will feature the brand new Disneyland 10K. This is the first time runDisney has ever offered a race in this distance and it is a great opportunity for those who are looking to take the next step from a 5K to take part in a Disney race. Along with the 10K, runDisney is having the first Dumbo Double Dare, which is a brand new honor you can receive if you complete both the 10K and the half marathon. Oh yeah…I’m there!
Also taking place that weekend is the Disneyland Family Fun Run 5K and Kids Races. The 5K will begin at 5:30 am in the Disneyland Resort and will be immediately followed by the Disneyland 10K at 6:15 am. I’m sure some super fast runners will try to attempt both the 5K and the 10K, but I’m going to take that extra 45 minutes to sleep in 🙂 The Kids Races will be held in the Downtown Disney District at 10:00 am that same day. These are always so much fun to watch!

Make sure to visit the runDisney event page for more information on all of the events taking place that weekend including the Pasta in the Park Party, park tickets and ChEar Squad info!
The buzz all over the internets is that these races are going to sell out FAST! In 2012, the Disneyland Half Marathon sold out in a few weeks. Now with the addition of the 10K and the new Dumbo medal, more people are jumping to register. So get on it!
