Registration is Now Open for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend

Registration is now open for the 2nd Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!  The race weekend will take place January 18 – 20, 2013, only 1 week following Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.  This is a fun race full of sassy, winged runners flying through the Disneyland parks and the streets of Anaheim.

This is a great opportunity to get one of those coveted Coast to Coast medals if you are planning on running a Walt Disney World race later in the year.  You know you want one…I know I do!  Also taking place that weekend on Saturday, January 19th are the Never Land Family Fun Run 5K and various kids races. These are a fun way for the whole family to get involved in the weekend.  The 5K will be run through the Disneyland parks, which the dashed are in Downtown Disney next door.

Pricing for the events are as follows:

Tinker Bell Half Marathon

  • $150 by July 17, 2012
  • $165 between July 18 and September 4, 2012
  • $180 on or after September 5, 2012

Tinker Bell Half Marathon Team Category

  • $300 by July 17, 2012
  • $330 between July 18 and September 4, 2012
  • $360 on or after September 5, 2012

Never Land Family Fun Run 5K

  • $65 per participant

runDisney Kids’ Races

  • $20 per child

The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Expo will be open on January 18 & 19, 2013 in the Disneyland Hotel Exhibit Hall.  You must visit the Expo to pick up your race packet and it is also a good opportunity to pick up all of that fab race weekend merchandise.  They had some pretty great Dooney & Bourke bags last year!

I wish I could make this race…it looks so fun!  I would love to through on a pair of wings and soar through Disneyland, but the Walt Disney World Marathon is calling my name.  I hope in the future, runDisney puts some additional time between these races.  As always, visit the runDisney event page for more information on all of the events taking place that weekend.

Remember to follow the “second start to the right and straight on til morning” to find the finish line!

Registration is Now Open for Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Registration is now open for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend!  2013 marks the 20th anniversary of this race weekend in which time it has grown to the largest racing weekend in the country.  For the weekend of January 10 – 13, around 55,000 participants  will descend upon the Walt Disney World Resort for a unique chance to run through the theme park and resorts.

Mickey Mile Map

Over the course of 4 days, runDisney will host a slew of races for participants of all ages and athletic ability.  The weekend actually begins on Thursday with the opening of the Health & Fitness Expo and various kids races in the afternoon, including the Diaper Dash and the Mickey Mile.  All of these events will take place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the kids races will continue through the weekend.  If you are going to be in the area on Thursday, this is probably your best day to go to the Expo.  Since this is such a busy weekend, this is sure to be the least busy of all of the days.

Family Fun Run 5K Map

The Family Fun Run 5K will take place on Friday morning.  The course will take participants through Epcot and have Disney entertainment along the way.  This is a great race for character pictures and fun with the whole family since the race is not officially timed.  This is the same course as the Tangled Royal Family 5K I participated in in February.  Read my race recap here to see more about the course.

Half Marathon Map

Saturday marks the beginning of the competitive races with the Walt Disney World Half marathon.  This course will take participants through the Walt Disney Resort, into the Magic Kingdom, through Cinderella’s Castle and finishing at Epcot.  This is a fantastic course and in true Disney style, there will be a wide array of entertainment along the way.  Check out my recap of the Princess Half Marathon here which is on the some course.  This race is also the first day of the Goofy Challenge, where runners take part in both the half marathon and the marathon the follow day.  That is seriously goofy!

The race weekend culminates with the 20th Walt Disney World Marathon on Sunday morning.  This grueling 26.2 mile race is made more bearable when you get to run though all 4 Disney parks and past many of the gorgeous resort areas.  If you have enough time, you may even get to ride some attractions.  I know a few people who rode Expedition Everest during this year’s race!  Since this is the 20th anniversary of race, there is sure to be some great bling for everyone who participates.  That alone is making me think of doing it!

Inaugural Walt Disney World Marathon Medal

In 2012, runDisney introduced the Chip & Dale Marathon Relay during the Walt Disney World Marathon.  This seemed to be a popular event, but it will not be returning this year.  I do not have specific information as to why, but I’m assuming it was logistically challenging.

Don’t forget that DVC members receive a discount on runDisney events!  Make sure to visit your member page to obtain the discount codes.  You will find the runDisney logo at the bottom of the home page.

Registration is Now Open for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

The Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon is now open for registration!  Touted as a Runners Night Out, this is the 3rd year this race is being held.  This year the race weekend has been pushed back and will be held November 9 – 10, 2012.  This was done to accommodate the new Tower of Terror 10-Miler, which is now happening on the original Wine & Dine Weekend.

This is another nighttime race beginning at 10:00 pm on November 10th.  The race begins at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and takes runners through Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and finishes at Epcot.  It’s the only Disney Half Marathon to take you through 3 parks!

The price tag for the Wine & Dine Half Marathon is a bit higher than other Disney races, but it includes a lot of extras.  You get the usual amazing Disney entertainment on the course, a tech shirt, and race medal, but also included is admission to the Finish Line Party at Epcot and a $10 gift card!  The Finish Line Party has turned into a great event for runners and their supporters.  runDisney quickly learned from their mistakes after the first year was very over crowded, and opened up Future World for the party.  Now select attractions including Soarin’, Test Track, Mission: SPACE, and Maelstrom are open from 10:30 pm – 3:00 am for those attending the party.  Another added bonus is that all of the Food & Wine Festival kiosks are open during the party, which is great for a post-race snack and use for that $10 gift card!

Also taking place that weekend is a Family Fun Run 5k and Kids Races.  The 5K is once again taking place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for the 2nd year in a row.  I took part in this race last year and it was a lot of fun and recommend it to anyone thinking of running a Disney 5K.  While I still wish they would move this race back to the Magic Kingdom where it was held the first year, Animal Kingdom is a great park to run though and of course Disney manages to keep you entertain along the way.  The race will be held at 7:00 am on November 10th, which does make it difficult for those of us who are crazy to participate in that as well as the half in the evening.  The Kids Races will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at 10:00 am that same afternoon.  That is one busy racing day!

Pricing for the events are as follows:

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon

  • $155 by May 22, 2012
  • $170 between May 23 and July 17, 2012
  • $185 on or after July 18, 2012

Disney Family Fun Run 5K

  • $50 per participant
  • $55 per Stroller division participant

runDisney Kids’ Races

  • $10 per Kid’s Dash participant
  • $25 per 1-Mile Run participant

Finish Line Party

  • Pricing is TBD, but was around $65 last year

As usual for most runDisney events, packet pick-up will be required at the Health & Fitness Expo held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex beginning November 9, 2012.  Visit the runDisney event page for more information on all of the events taking place that weekend.

I’m really looking forward to this race, as it was what set me on this running journey last year.  It will be like coming full circle.  Hope to see you there…you’ll find me at the Ireland booth getting a nice cold Guinness after the race!
