RAD Reads and Weekly Review: September 15, 2013

So you really want to know what bloggers do on vacation?  Well we typically start our day doing this:

Bloggers-Vacation

This photo cracks me up.  Not only because it’s slightly ridiculous, but I just love how I have friends who are all on the same wave length.  Obviously we didn’t spend the entire trip hidden behind our laptops.  We went kayaking, swimming, played mini-golf, ate a TON of food and had numerous adult beverages.  The 2nd year at the Disney Beach House was the best yet and I can’t wait to share more details with you about Disney’s Vero Beach Resort…it’s quickly topping my list of favorite resorts!

As a great way to end the week, a few of us headed out to Walt Disney World on Friday to not only play in parks for a bit:

But most importantly to eat here:

Martini-California-Grill

O.M.G. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing the renovations are at California Grill.  The decor, the food, everything…wonderful.  Be sure there will be a full detailed review to come shortly, but for now you can check out all the food porn over on my Instagram page.

Here’s what I’ve been up to on Running at Disney this week:

And here’s what’s been happening over on RAD Living:

Now on to some RAD Reads from some of my favorite bloggers!

Weekly Review
My past week definitely involved a TON of relaxation, but I did manage to squeeze in a few good workouts.  Our kayaking trip was an incredible upper body workout!  Here are all of my workouts from this week and to view a complete list of WODs, visit my dailymile page.

Sunday: Rest
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Kayaking: 4.7 miles (4 hours)
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 20 min amrap: goblet squats, db thrusters & pushups
Friday: Magic Kingdom Walking (4 miles)
Saturday: Magic Kingdom Walking (5 miles)

The 20 minutes amrap I did on Thursday was at the resort gym called Anchors A-Weigh.  Love the name!

Anchors-a-Weigh

Didn’t love the gym…

Vero-Gym

Definitely not my style…  But I made the best of it, grabbed a dumbbell and made up my own workout.

Vero-Dumbell_Amrap

I did a quick 1/4 mile warmup run on the treadmill, which was awkward because I had a mirror right in my face…yikes!  Then I did the following 20 minute amrap (as many rounds as possible):

  • 15 goblet squats (20#)
  • 10 dumbbell snatches (20# x 4 & 30# x 4)
  • 10 pushups

I started with 5 burpees instead of the pushups, but realized by quads were quickly going to get burnt out with those, so I switched to pushups for round 2.  I got in a total of 8 rounds and was a sweaty mess after.  This workout was so tough that my quads and glutes are STILL sore 3 days later…crazy.

Tomorrow I will be starting the Lurong Living Paleo Challenge which is 8 weeks on the Paleo diet along with 10 workouts.  My weight will be taken, my measurements will be taken, photos will be taken…ahhhh!  I’m a bit nervous and excited at the same time.  I will be covering the whole thing over on RAD Living, so make sure to head over there and check it out!

Have a great week and remember to Be RAD!

RAD Reads & Weekly Review: August 11, 2013

Earlier this week I announced that I will be having a meet up during Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. If you’re going to be out for any of the races that weekend I hope you’ll be able to stop by.  You can RSVP here.

My planning for this trip is coming along.  Hotel is booked, dining reservations are made and I’m beginning to get a plan together for touring the parks. I really can’t believe the races are only 3 weeks away!

In other runDisney news this week, the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon sold out! The only event still available for that weekend is Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, but that’s already 92% full.  So if you’ve been thinking about participating, don’t hesitate!

In case you missed it, here’s what’s new on Running at Disney this week:

This week I tried Nuun as a substitute for Gatorade, but sadly that didn’t workout so well.  It wrecked havoc on my digestive system and killed my workout on Tuesday.  I guess I’ll be crossing that one off the list.  Seems like a combo of Gatorade, coconut water and plain ole water is what works for me and I’ll be sticking to it.  Here are the rest of my workouts from this week and to view a complete list of WODs, visit my dailymile page.

Sunday: Rest
Monday: CrossFit: K2E, Squats & Run
Tuesday: CrossFit: Power Cleans, RDL, Burpee Box Jumps
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: CrossFit: K2E, Manmakers & AD
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Rest

I think we’re coming up on a testing week at the gym which is something I also look forward to.  Bring on the heavy squats!

Disney’s Princess Half Marathon News and Registration Info

Princess Info

It’s almost time to register for  Disney’s Princess Half Marathon again!!  I am constantly baffled at how fast time goes by!

Special Coast to Coast MedalYou are all probably aware at this point that the Disney Enchanted 10K has been added to the weekend and that there is a new Glass Slipper Challenge if you complete both the 10K and Princess Half Marathon.  There is also the new Coast to Coast Challenge pink medal when you complete the Princess Half Marathon and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in 2014.

But alas, there is NEW information about Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend.  Similar to the changes implemented for Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in January, the following enhancements will be in place to hopefully make the race experience better:

  • Lowering weekend capacity by 2,000 runners, mostly in the half marathon
  • Proof of time required from runners anticipating a finish time of 3:15 or less
  • More corrals allowing runners with similar abilities to be grouped together and therefore spreading out the field on the course
  • No corral changes based on proof of time will be made after December 1, 2013.

It was also confirmed by runDisney that the Fit for a Princess Expo will be going back to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in 2014!  This year it was held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, which just was too close for comfort!

Coast to Coast Challenge Update

Ever since the new special edition Coast to Coast Challenge pink medal was announced for the Princess Half Marathon and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon, questions have been circulating.  Can we now get 2 Coast to Coast medals?!?  It wasn’t clear.

Well now it is and YES, in 2014 you have the ability to earn 2 Coast to Coast medals (if your wallet allows).

Coast to Coast Medals

Here is the official info from the runDisney website:

Only in 2014, runners can earn each version of the Coast to Coast Race Challenge medal.  Each race can only count once towards a Coast to Coast Race Challenge medal; to earn both medals in 2014 four races – two on each coast – must be completed.

So that means you MUST complete Disney’s Princess Half Marathon and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon, along with one of the following races in Walt Disney World:

  • Walt Disney World Marathon
  • Walt Disney World Half Marathon
  • Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge
  • Dopey Challenge
  • Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon

AND the Disneyland Half Marathon or the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge.  That’s a lot of money running!!!

While I would LOVE to have both of these medals, I don’t think it’s in the cards for me.  The Tinker Bell Half Marathon is too close to Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend and I’m already signed up for the 10K and Half Marathon.  Plus, it’s quite the investment to take a trip to California twice in one year for me and that’s just not in the cards.  But I can’t wait to see how many of YOU take on this challenge!  Will you be getting 2 Coast to Coast medals in 2014?

runDisney Race Update & Tower of Terror 10-Miler News

runDisney Logo

It is quite incredible how popular runDisney races have become.  Even with the addition of new race lengths this year, each weekend seems to be selling out in record time.  Disney “race season” hasn’t even begun and there are only a handful of races that are open for registration.  Here’s an update:

As you can see there aren’t many options left if you’re planning on running Disney this year!  If you’re looking for a longer race in 2013, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler looks to be your only option left.  This will be the 2nd year of this race and it looks like Disney has been listening to our feedback from last year’s race.  Check out this video that was released today:

I’m so glad to hear that they are improving on the entertainment from last year since that was severely lacking.  Check out my race recap for more info…now if only they could guarantee it won’t be so hot!  Today is the last day to register before the price increases to $165 tomorrow, so get too it!  The medal is so worth it 🙂

I love that the elevator moves!
