Summer is winding down which is always a difficult time for me. Not only do I get much busier at work, but I start to get very sad about the cold and dark winter that is looming in my future. But I’m trying to focus on the positive these days and the end of summer means wonderful produce from local farms and in my CSA basket. Plus I enjoy running much more in cooler temps, so I have that to look forward to. I am going to save the sad thoughts of winter coats and snow shovels for another day….and then cry a bit.
One great thing about this week were all of the amazing blog posts out there! Check out all of these RAD Reads I found!

Listen to doctor’s orders? Rest? Say wha?? I’m not sure what that means… After my neck injury last week, my wonderful chiropractor (who has been a miracle worker through all of this) advised me to rest before running again and probably avoid CrossFit again altogether. So what do I do? I didn’t run, but I did go back to my CrossFit On Ramp on Monday. Dr. Pat, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry and completely realize that I don’t have a rational thought in my head.
Good news is that I’m continuing to feel better even though I still have some pain and stiffness in my neck. I decided to resume CrossFit against doctor’s orders because 1. I paid a lot of money for this program, 2. I’m seeing amazing results that I have never seen with any other exercise I’ve done, and 3. I plain and simple love the it! I feel strong for the first time in my life and I’m starting to see muscles form that I never thought I would have. I’ve
complained talked about hating weight training and toning exercises numerous times and to find a program that I actually enjoy is HUGE for me. I spoke with my coach before returning and he ensured me that we can scale back many of the exercises to put a minimal amount of strain on my neck. I’ve still been challenging myself this week, but definitely not pushing my limits. My coach has also been checking on me numerous times throughout the class to make sure I’m not overdoing and has been modifying as I go.
So here’s my week of training and as always you can see my full workouts over on dailymile:
Monday: CrossFit – 1 hour
Tuesday: Spinning – 1 hour
Wednesday: CrossFit – 1 hour
Thursday: CrossFit – 1 hour
Saturday: CrossFit – 1 hour
Well it’s pretty clear that I’ve been neglecting my marathon training. The thought of those long training runs seem daunting right now. These short CrossFit workouts are fun and rewarding! Those long runs can be tedious and I haven’t seem many results from them since I started almost a year ago. I’m in by no means denigrating all of my accomplishments this year…this body has taken me through two half marathons and four 5Ks and that’s pretty amazing! But as far as my body changing, nada. I actually gained weight instead of losing. Also, my painful shin splints have finally gone away and I think I’m a little scared that they will act up again. Since I have a few races coming up in the near future, including that WDW Marathon in January, this is clearly only a temporary hiatus. I need to make a point to get back at it this week.
So on to some of those results, I’ve been talking about. My weigh-in days are Mondays and this week I lost another 1.5 pounds, making the total 7.5 pounds and 3.5 inches lost in 2 weeks! I jumped on the scale again on Thursday and was down another 2.5! It’s all quite amazing to me and I love seeing my body change for the better. We’ll see what my weigh-in will bring tomorrow. It probably won’t be great since I completely indulged yesterday at our favorite restaurant Caseus last night when my Dad and Stepmom came up to visit. (Hi Dad!) We’re talking creamy buratta, decadent mac & cheese and tangy cheesecake. I seriously fell off the Paleo/clean eating wagon! But overall, I feel like I’m making better choices everyday and I’m on the road to getting myself on track.
Fingers crossed this week is as a productive as last and my body keeps healing. I hope you have a happy and healthy week as well!! What better choices are you going to make this week?
