What an exciting week it’s been for runDisney! First, the 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon sold out in record time on September 6th. 25,000 runners will be participating in the marathon – the largest event ever! This sell out came on the heels of the excitement around the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend. runDisney race season has officially begun!
Then just yesterday, both the Half Marathon and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge reached capacity as well. In total, there will be more than 58,000 people participating over Marathon Weekend, including 10,000 for the Goofy. I guess those new medals really got everyone excited 🙂
That number is hard for me to wrap my brain around! That is a lot of people descending on the Walt Disney World Resort for one weekend. If you haven’t made hotel reservations yet, you should probably do so VERY soon. I’ve heard that all DVC rooms are booked already. This large number of participants also concerns me about transportation on the morning of the races. I recall hearing horror stories of runners being trapped on busses for hours trying to get to the starting lines. Disney always seems to improve on issues from prior years and let’s hope that’s the case in 2013 as well.
If you missed out on registering, there are still a few ways to do so. You can register through the Runner’s World Challenge or with one of various charities that are fundraising for the race, such as Team in Training. Registration is still available for the Family Fun Run 5K , runDisney Kids’ Races and the Mickey Mile, but those are filling up fast as well. Visit www.rundisney.com for more information.
See you in January!!

Yesterday the Walt Disney World 20th Anniversary Marathon SOLD OUT! This is the earliest I can recall the marathon selling out in recent years. Registrations had been sitting stagnant for a while and seemed to pick up after the Disneyland Half Marathon this past weekend. I guess all of those runners caught the runDisney bug and decided to register for the full marathon. I can relate to that 🙂
So now the only way to get this awesome 20th anniversary medal is to register through the Runner’s World Challenge, for the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge (hurry, this is at 92& full!), or with one of various charities that are fundraising for the race, such as Team in Training.
Are you registered for the Walt Disney World Marathon??

This has been a week of big highs and serious lows for me. What a roller coaster ride. Early on I sustained a neck injury while doing kettlebell swings in my CrossFit class. This (once again) put me on an exercise hiatus for the rest of the week. I’ve been seeing a wonderful chiropractor all week and I’m starting to feel like normal again. The week ended on an incredibly high note at the Healthy Living Summit where I met some amazing people and learned a great deal. I can’t wait to share it with all of you!
For the 2nd week in a row, runDisney had some BIG news! The 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon Medal design was revealed, a slew of new celebrities were announced for WDW Marathon Weekend, and runDisney launched a brand new website that it so much easier to use and a much needed improvement.
Now on to some RAD Reads!

As I mentioned, I’ve been resting for the majority of this week and to say that I’m frustrated is an understatement. It seems that as soon as I get on a roll with exercise, something crazy in my brain tells me I’m invincible, which leads me to push myself past my limits, leading to injury. You would think after two prior injuries this year, I would know better. Nope…haven’t learned anything. Once the pain stops, it’s like I block all prior issues out and once again think I’m Wonder Women. This is the hardest thing for me to overcome. Throw hill training at me, deadlifts, sprints, you name it and I’ll conquer it, but ask me to think logically about my limits and you might as well be speaking Chinese.
Here’s my week of training (or lack there of):
Monday: CrossFit – 1 hour
I think the worst part of being injured this week was having the Healthy Living Summit. I was really looking forward to doing the Reebok sponsored CrossFit workout with Jared Davis, but that was now out of the question. I was able to watch and still get some awesome CrossFit swag (wait until you see all the swag I got!), so that was definitely a positive. I also knew that the 2 hour drive and then sitting all day in the various sessions was not going to be very comfortable, but it actually turned out not to be so bad. There were a lot of breaks throughout the day and I was able to walk around a lot.
The best news of last week was that I lost 6 pounds from the prior week! The workouts and clean eating I’ve been doing has really paid off. On weekdays, I’ve been trying to avoid gluten, sugar and dairy and not only did I drop a few pounds, but I feel better overall. I still allow myself small amounts of it on the weekends so I don’t feel deprived. I don’t think I could ever completely cut out cheese!
I’m going to go speak to my CrossFit coach and see what my options are for continuing the program. I’ve paid for this entire 12 class on ramp and I’ve already missed 2 classes. I really want to continue doing this as it’s the only program I found that I actually enjoy. My chiropractor isn’t too keen on my continuing, but I’m hoping there are modifications I can’t make to cause the least amount of stress to my body. He actually said that he gets 2 new patients a week from CrossFit injuries…yikes! Fingers crossed I can continue on!
For now I’ll leave you with this ridiculousness from the weekend. Have a wonderful week!

After much anticipation, the 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Medal has finally been revealed and it’s a beauty!!
I’m LOVING the new design and that it is so completely different from prior years. The colors are so fun and it really compliments the festivities surrounding this event. I also love the double spinners in the center of the medal that show Mickey from 1994 and from present day, and has the inspiring inscription “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Something all of us runners need to keep in mind. The I’m really glad I decided to bite the bullet and make this my first marathon…I will be very proud to have this medal around my neck!

We’ve finally caught up with Donald Duck and the folks over at runDisney were able to give him his brand new medal for the 2013 Walt Disney World Half Marathon!
Here’s a photo of the actual medal!
LOVE the new design! It almost makes me want to sign up for the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge so I can get one…almost. This unlocks level 4 of the Great Medal Caper and gets us even closer to the big reveal of the 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon medal!
