RAD Reads for November 3, 2013

So I’ve decided to scrap my weekly recaps on Sundays and stick with only sharing some of my favorite posts from around the blogosphere.  I want to celebrate the community here and not just celebrate myself because I want Running at Disney to be as much about you as it is about me.  I don’t always have time to read all the blogs out there so if you’ve written something or find something great, please make sure to send it to me to share!

I seriously become incommunicado when I travel.  It’s like my brain shuts down and I can’t even muster the strength to open up my laptop.  I guess that’s a good thing so I actually live in the moment and enjoy my vacation, right?  Anywho…I got back from a whirlwind weekend in Walt Disney World for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler (full recap coming this week!) and then dove right into a seriously hectic work week that involved numerous events and a trip to Boston.  Gah!  Disney trips always leave me needing a vacation from my vacation, but I would give anything to be here right now:

Speaking of Food & Wine, I was lucky to get to film a few episodes of Travel with Rick while I was there.  Check out my take on the Cheese booth at the festival this year!

I managed to get a few workouts in when I got back, but my week was definitely lacking in the exercise department.  And let’s not even talk about the paleo challenge…sigh.  Here are all of my workouts from this week and to view a complete list of WODs, visit my dailymile page.

Sunday: 11 miles combined running & walking in WDW
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: CrossFit: Power Cleans, Strict Press, Romanian Dead Lifts & Air Dyne Sprints
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Rest
Friday: CrossFit: Back Squats, Pull Ups & Lurong WOD 5
Saturday: Rest

This week I really need to get back into my steady CrossFit routine.  I’ve got Barbells for Boobs coming up soon (make sure to donate!!) and I need to get my strength up to tackle Grace.  I also want to start tackling the things I’m not good at…pull-ups, box jumps, handstands.  I’m never going to get better if I keep avoiding the things I don’t like…maybe I should adopt that theory in all areas of life.

Have a great week and remember to Be RAD!

Ahhh this week.  I’ve spent a lot of time this week for myself.  Time to reflect, recoup and basically just check out.  What came out of that?  Well I’m not really sure, but it’s something that I think I need to do more often…

Weekly Review
I’ve been struggling a bit this week with my diet.  I’m not sure that a strict Paleo diet is sustainable for me or I might possibly not be eating enough.  I’ve felt weak at the gym and on Friday I was having dizzy spells…I basically just felt hungry.  I’ve been eating around 1900 calories per day which given my body type and the amount of exercise I’m doing might not be enough.  Also, my body has been burning off more fat because I’ve been eating cleaner, so that is clearly having some sort of effect as well.

Paleo Burger

So on Friday night I decided to eat all the bad things…bread, cheese, potatoes and booze.  And let me tell you, I felt amazing afterwards!  Maybe I just need some grains in my life.  I’m going to try to stick with it for a while longer, but there will definitely be some cheats along the way.  I just need to listen to my body and give it what it needs, and sometimes that might be a nice piece of bread…sue me.

Here are all of my workouts from this week and to view a complete list of WODs, visit my dailymile page.

Sunday: Rest
Monday: CrossFit: Hang Squat Clean, OHS & T2B
Tuesday: CrossFit: Dead Lifts, CG Bench, Cleans & Pushups
Wednesday: CrossFit: Lurong WOD 3
Thursday: CrossFit: RDL, Hand Power Snatch & Amraps
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Rest

This week I’m headed back to Walt Disney World for The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler and to indulge in the Food & Wine Festival.  I’ll be in Epcot all day Friday filming some episodes of Travel With Rick (check out my episodes from last year here!) before having my RAD Meet Up at 2:00 pm.  So if you’re around, come say hi!

RAD Reads and Weekly Review: September 22, 2013

This was a fun celebration week!  B’s birthday was on Tuesday and our 4 year wedding anniversary was on Thursday.  If our recent travels weren’t enough of a celebration for us, B and I went into New York yesterday to see one of my favorite bands and have a wonderful meal at Morimoto.

Morimoto

We then went to go see my favorite band Stereophonics.  They haven’t been in the US since 2008 and I was ecstatic to see them.  I’ve been a huge fan for almost 15 years, so it was a great way to end a special week.

Kelly-Stereophonics

After the show, B and I met up with with my good friend Estelle from This Happy Place Blog and her husband James for a much overdo drink.  We finally took a picture together and it came out horrible…guess I’ll just have to see her again soon ;)

With all of the going ons and also trying to catchup at work and the blogs, I’ve fallen behind on my blog reading.  So I don’t have any RAD Reads this week, but I can’t wait to catch up with all my favorites soon!

Weekly Review
My first week on the Lurong Living Paleo Challenge has gone pretty well!  This wasn’t the best week to start because of B’s birthday and our anniversary, so needless to say I have had a few cheat meals.  But for the most part I’ve stuck to the diet and have completed two of the workouts so far.  I haven’t noticed many changes except that I’m definitely sleeping better…10 hours of wonderful rest on Friday night!

Here are all of my workouts from this week and to view a complete list of WODs, visit my dailymile page.

Sunday: Rest
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: CrossFit: Jumping Pullups, Run/Row, Plank Holds
Thursday: CrossFit: Bench, Snatch, Sprint
Friday: CrossFit: Lurong WOD 2
Saturday: CrossFit: Lurong WOD 1

I have one more workout to complete this week as part of the challenge and hopefully I’ll come up with some fun meals as well.  Meat and veg can get a little boring after a while…

Have a great week and remember to Be RAD!

So you really want to know what bloggers do on vacation?  Well we typically start our day doing this:

Bloggers-Vacation

This photo cracks me up.  Not only because it’s slightly ridiculous, but I just love how I have friends who are all on the same wave length.  Obviously we didn’t spend the entire trip hidden behind our laptops.  We went kayaking, swimming, played mini-golf, ate a TON of food and had numerous adult beverages.  The 2nd year at the Disney Beach House was the best yet and I can’t wait to share more details with you about Disney’s Vero Beach Resort…it’s quickly topping my list of favorite resorts!

As a great way to end the week, a few of us headed out to Walt Disney World on Friday to not only play in parks for a bit:

But most importantly to eat here:

Martini-California-Grill

O.M.G. I can’t even begin to describe how amazing the renovations are at California Grill.  The decor, the food, everything…wonderful.  Be sure there will be a full detailed review to come shortly, but for now you can check out all the food porn over on my Instagram page.

Weekly Review
My past week definitely involved a TON of relaxation, but I did manage to squeeze in a few good workouts.  Our kayaking trip was an incredible upper body workout!  Here are all of my workouts from this week and to view a complete list of WODs, visit my dailymile page.

Sunday: Rest
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Kayaking: 4.7 miles (4 hours)
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: 20 min amrap: goblet squats, db thrusters & pushups
Friday: Magic Kingdom Walking (4 miles)
Saturday: Magic Kingdom Walking (5 miles)

The 20 minutes amrap I did on Thursday was at the resort gym called Anchors A-Weigh.  Love the name!

Anchors-a-Weigh

Didn’t love the gym…

Vero-Gym

Definitely not my style…  But I made the best of it, grabbed a dumbbell and made up my own workout.

Vero-Dumbell_Amrap

I did a quick 1/4 mile warmup run on the treadmill, which was awkward because I had a mirror right in my face…yikes!  Then I did the following 20 minute amrap (as many rounds as possible):

  • 15 goblet squats (20#)
  • 10 dumbbell snatches (20# x 4 & 30# x 4)
  • 10 pushups

I started with 5 burpees instead of the pushups, but realized by quads were quickly going to get burnt out with those, so I switched to pushups for round 2.  I got in a total of 8 rounds and was a sweaty mess after.  This workout was so tough that my quads and glutes are STILL sore 3 days later…crazy.

Tomorrow I will be starting the Lurong Living Paleo Challenge which is 8 weeks on the Paleo diet along with 10 workouts.  My weight will be taken, my measurements will be taken, photos will be taken…ahhhh!  I’m a bit nervous and excited at the same time.  I will be covering the whole thing over on RAD Living, so make sure to head over there and check it out!

Have a great week and remember to Be RAD!
