RAD Reads and Weekly Review: January 20, 2013

Oh nothing big happened this past week…I only ran a MARATHON!  It’s still kind of surreal to me that I finished the race and completed this incredible milestone in my life.  My recap will be coming this week…it’s taking quite a while to go through all my photos and wrap my brain around the experience.  But in the meantime, Live, Run, GrowFit2Flex, Dr. Rachel Runs, We Run Disney, The Unlikely Competitor, Dan’s Marathon, and Illuminating Epcot all have great coverage from the weekend.  You also need to check out this awesome video by Lee Hoedl who recorded the entire race.

I also registered for the Dumbo Double Dare this week so it looks like I’ll be headed out to Disneyland in August!  I’ve never been there and I couldn’t be more excited to take part in this inaugural race on my first trip!  Who else is taking the challenge?

Now how about some RAD Reads from this week!

Weekly Review
Besides running the marathon, I had another great trip to Walt Disney World.  I’m so happy B, my Mom and her husband were all able to be there and support me through the race.  We had some fantastic meals and a lot of laughs…definitely the making of a great trip!

Spaceship Earth

I was a bit sore after the race, but the worst part were the blisters that I got.  Both feet got matching blisters on my little toes and the balls of my feet.  It made walking incredibly painful, so any recovery runs were out of the question.  I

So next up is the Princess Half Marathon…the one year anniversary of my first half!  It seems so much longer than a year.  I can’t wait to run this race again…it’s so fun! 🙂  My goal for the next few weeks is to work on speed, so I see some Fartleks and Tempo runs in my future.

Any advice for improving speed?

  1. Yeah, I registered for Dumbo too! Last year’s DL half was my first trip out to Disneyland and honestly I loved it so much more than I was expecting…I can’t wait to go back!

I’m planning on starting to do some speed work the next few weeks to, I’m going to do some research, I’ll let you know if I find anything good – I’d really like to shoot for a half PR this spring / fall!

YAY! Maybe we can actually hand out at that race! I can’t wait to get out to Disneyland…I’ve been wanting to make the trip for a while and D3 really pushed me over the edge 🙂

  2. Hey, thanks for the shout out! I appreciate the mention. Congratulations on a successful marathon, especially is such heat! I’m in for Dumbo Double Dare, too. I can’t wait. I may be biased because my first ever half marathon was Disneyland 2010, but the Disneyland races are way better than WDW. I seem to be in the minority by saying that, but I like the DL and Tink courses so much better. There’s way more to see, even though it’s not all on Disney property.

Best of luck and maybe I will see you there! 😀

    • That heat was a killer!! I can’t wait to run at Disneyland…I’ve heard it’s wonderful 🙂
Definitely hope to see you out there!!

  3. My first trip to Disneyland was in 2011 for C2C. The experience was fantastic and we absolutely loved the DL hotel. The convenience of walking to the race start also is a huge plus. We are also signed up for DDD so Christine and get her first C2C medal!

I’m very excited about walking to both the race and the expo! I think that will definitely be a huge plus.
Hope to see both of you out there…maybe we can chat a little more this time!

  4. Thank you so much for including my guest post in your recap! Disney in August sounds like a lot of fun. Best of luck to you!
