It has been a seriously busy and exciting week. I have a really fun announcement in my Weekly Review, along with an interesting training week. But first, let’s check out some RAD Reads!

I’m very excited to announce that this week I became a FitFluential Ambassador! FitFluential is a network of fitness enthusiasts sharing their journey through various social media outlets. The company was designed to connect health and wellness brands with their ideal target market through customized, long-term experiential and contextual marketing campaigns. This is an amazing opportunity to not only promote a healthy lifestyle, but showcase how to increase health and well-being through new brand partnerships. I will be highlighting many of these brands in the future, so look for some great new content. I’m extremely honored to be a part of this elite group of fitness experts and I’m am excited for the journey this opportunity will take me on!
It’s no secret that I’ve been struggling with weight training and toning exercises, as I find the repetition boring and often find it hard to incorporate them into my training schedule. As I mentioned earlier this week, I’ve been toying with the idea of trying CrossFit, so I went to an introductory class yesterday and LOVED it! I was really nervous that I wouldn’t be able to do any of the exercises, but I did really well! Everyone there was really nice and welcoming. I was so glad that to see that it wasn’t as intimidating as I was expecting.
After a warm up with the group and about a 1/4 mile run, the newbies (5 of us) were taken separately to learn about the CrossFit process and learn a few moves. Here’s was we did:
- 10 kettlebell squats
- 10 ring rows
- 10 sit-ups
We did these three moves twice and then did a 150 meter run. The goals was to keep moving and continue with this for 15 minutes. It was tough, but that 15 minutes went by very quickly. I was tired at the end, but felt really good. Once we were finished stretching, I signed up for the On Ramp, which is 3 classes per week for 4 weeks. It is a way to introduce beginners to all of the movements in a small group setting. Classes begin on August 6th, so expect to see a lot more CrossFit info in the future. I am incredibly sore today, but I’m hoping this will really pay off and help me get in fantastic shape for the marathon in January. The best part of the class was when we were finished and the trainer asked me “What gym do you currently go to? You obviously work out.” Um…no gym and hardly any workouts besides cardio, but THANK YOU for the compliment! I must be in better shape than I thought I was. Needless to say, I was on cloud 9 leaving there.
Here’s the rest of my week of exercise:
Monday: Spinning – 1 hour
Wednesday: 3.11 mile run
Friday: 3.23 mile run
Saturday: CrossFit Intro Class – 45 minutes
I’m continuing to have pain in my lower legs when I run, so I’m trying to take it easy. But even with the pain, I’m getting faster with each run, as my endurance seems to be increasing every week. I’m on a steady routine of ice, Voltaren Gel, compression and stretching, which really helps to ease the pain. I just hope this isn’t going to be a chronic issue and that it will heal over time.
I also registered for the Healthy Living Summit this week! This is a weekend conference taking place August 17-19 in Boston for bloggers that are interested in all aspects on healthy living including eating well, staying fit, and overall wellness. The agenda for the conference looks great and I am so excited to meet so many people that I respect in this community! Let me know if you are attending…I’d love to meet up!
