Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler – The Map

Late last week, runDisney released the map for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler race.  While I’m still extremely excited about this race (especially the fun medal), I have mixed feelings about the course.

The race starts in the Studios parking lot and takes runners down to Osceola Parkway…never ending Osceola Parkway.  It looks like we go down to the Animal Kingdom parking lot before simply turning around an heading back.  If we’re going to go all that way, why not let us run through Animal Kingdom to get another park in.  Instead, we run around the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex…not so fun.  Most of the appeal of running at Disney is getting to run through the parks, and with this race we only go through one park and at the very end.  The majority of this race is going to be on long, boring highways and in the dark!  Knowing Disney, they will have a ton of entertainment along the course and I’m really hoping they deliver.

One part of the map I was happy to see, was the detail as we run through the Studios at the end.

The Studios is my favorite park and I can’t wait to run through there!  We will enter in the backstage area next the Lights, Motors, Action and then run through the set.  From there, it looks like we run up the Streets of America, down Commissary Lane, around the Giant Hat, through Pixar Place, and then head backstage again where the final half mile or so.  The race ends backstage in an area that seems to be between Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror (of course).  I’m glad to see we will not be running down Hollywood Boulevard, which was my concern for congestion during the after party.  Hopefully there will be plenty of room to move around afterwards.  So while I’m not thrilled about the beginning of the race, I love that we’ll be distracted at the end of the race by the fun of the Studios.

Are you running the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler?  What do you think of the race course?

  1. I guess the “terror” is having to go up the incline of the bridge between WWoS and AK not once but twice! :-)

  2. I think the reason they didn’t incorporate Animal Kingdom into the race is to differentiate the course from the Wine ‘n Dine Half Marathon. By replacing it with Wide World of Sports, it’s different enough so it’s not just a clone. But I’m with you – I’d rather run through AK than WWS.

  3. It’ll definitely be an interesting course! I’ll definitely have some songs on deck just in case :)

  4. [...] Wide World of Sports Complex.  Following in the footsteps of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler, the marathon will also be running through the many stadiums and fields of the [...]

  5. I agree the roads can be pretty boring and at night a bit uninspiring – especially if there are no spectators allowed on the course, but I’ll keep an open mind until I experience it :)!

  6. This will be Hubby & my first RunDisney race… not going to lie, I’m very nervous for the Osceola Parkway section but am hoping we are just too excited to care! Thanks for breaking down the map a bit for this first-timer :)

  7. I’m not as excited about running out Osceola and back through the Wide World of Sports, either (though the few times I ran through Animal Kingdom I worried about turning my ankle so maybe I’m just impossible to please). I would say though that running out onto the baseball field may turn out kind of cool. The Disneyland half takes you through Angel stadium and you get to see yourself up on the jumbotron. I thought it would be kind of dumb, but it lightened my spirits near the end of the run. I imagine that’s what they’re going for here, albeit with a smaller ballpark. Could be fun.

  8. We are very excited for this race and not worried about night or highways after running the Ragnar Relays, Disney always comes through! My wife and I are flying in from Utah to celebrate our 35th anniversary, I know it may not be very romantic but it’s just the way are.
