Friday Feast: My Reward for 8 Miles

Last weekend I ran an 8 mile training run, which is my longest since the Princess Half and my injury, which I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about at this point.  Well this post has nothing to do with running, injuries, or Disney for that matter.  This is just an awesome experience that needs to be shared 🙂

Here’s a little backstory…  About a month ago, Barry and I stopped at Eataly in NYC after a visit to family in Brooklyn.  Eataly is a mecca for foodies like us.  It has the best meats, cheeses, breads, fish, desserts, you name it!  It is a massive place and can be overwhelming with all of the options put in front of you.  It is also insanely crowded on the weekends so this was a quick trip to grab some awesome items for dinner.

Outside the exit of the main store is the wine shop.  We decided to pop in and get a bottle of Italian wine that we like, La Mozza I Perazzi.  We were going to get two bottles and noticed that they had magnum bottle available which included a free prize.  I always love something free, so we went with the magnum.  The prizes included all things that could be found in Eataly: a slice of pizza, a cup of gelato, another bottle of wine, etc…  The couple in front of us has won another magnum bottle of wine and I was totally jealous, that was until we opened the box and found our prize.

We were the GRAND PRIZE WINNERS!!  We won a tasting menu for 2 at Manzo, the upscale dining location in Eataly.  This couldn’t be right, we never win stuff like this.  We were told that we had to use the prize by May 6th and that it only included the food for the 5 course tasting menu.  That’s right, 5 courses!  This was a $140 value.  It looked like another trip to NYC was in our near future.

Fast forward to last Saturday when we cashed in our prize.  I gave the waitress our token and told her we were going to add on the wine pairing.  We figured if we were going to be getting a free meal, we could splurge on wine.  To our surprise, when the manager brought over our first glass of wine, we found out it was included!  BONUS 🙂

Housemade Gnocchi with Black Truffle Butter

Seared Trout with Broccoli Rabe, Caper Berries & Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette

Squab with Lentils, Spring Onions & Cherry Balsamic

It’s hard to pick a favorite out of all of those amazing dishes.  For me it was probably between the Carne Sala and the Gnocchi.  If I could’ve licked my plate, I probably would’ve.  Barry’s favorite was by far the Trout.  That Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette was ridiculous!

The meal definitely seemed to be lacking a cheese course, so of course we decided to add one.  We had a selection of 5 cheeses, including one super stinky cheese that I had all to myself 🙂

The manager was nice enough to give us the 2 glasses of the dessert wine, one with the cheeses and one with the dessert.  Let’s just say we were feeling good when we walked out of there.  Last course was the dessert, which was very interesting.  Yes, that is a big smear of butter under those delicious little cakes.

What an amazing meal.  We were so lucky to win this prize and I couldn’t be more appreciative.  The wine and food was a $245 value and we ended up only paying $18 for the cheeses + tip.  I can’t think of a better way to reward myself after and awesome run 🙂

Why can’t all bills be like this?!

  1. Ugh that sounds amazing! I’m so jealous. The only time I eat that well is on a Disney cruise!!
