Let’s Talk Shorts

Today I’m a bit frustrated.  I went to my local sporting goods store in search of running shorts to wear in warmer weather in anticipation of my upcoming trip to Florida.  I currently only have full and capri-length pants, which tend to get hot in the summer months.  All I could find in the women’s section were super short running shorts that I am 99% sure will ride up on me during a run and cause some serious chafing.  I looked at numerous brands, Under Armour, Adidas, Nike, Reebok, and all the shorts were only 3 to 5 inches in length.  I mean if my legs looked this awesome runner on the right, then yeah I’d be rocking those shorts.  But like a lot of women, my thighs jiggle and are not made for shorts like this.

So what’s a girl to do?  Remain forever overheated from long pants in the summer.  Buy stock in Body Glide to try to avoid chafing from short shorts.  I want something cool, but comfortable.  Does anyone else have this problem and have suggestions for a good pair of running shorts?  My inner thighs thank you in advance for your help!

  1. Ugh, I can totally relate. I’ve had good luck with the running skirts at Target. I have two of them and they are long enough to hide my thighs. The one pair of running shorts I have drive me nuts because they ride up. I was just looking at shorts the other day and had the same reaction as you – way too short!

  2. I wear skirt sports. They are a little more speedy, but super comfy. They have different kinds, with different length inseams, so be sure to check. I am usually one to get hot during runs, but I’ve never felt too hot in these. Plus, they have little pockets that are perfect for a gel, Chapstick, gum or tissues.

    Good luck.

  3. I have a princess skirt from http://www.runningskirts.com that I got from one of the run Disney expos and LOVE it. It’s the only thing I have done my 5 5ks in. They come in a short or briefs option under the skirt. The skirt is long enough that it doesn’t make me self conscience, but not so long as it gets in the way or is too hot. The two velcro pockets are nice, I’ve had my BlackBerry in one and my iPod in the other without much issues (if you really run in it, my BB is a hair too tall to fit with the velcro closed securely)

  4. I LOVE Lululemon. They make longer shorts that are wonderful. Oiselle’s roga shorts also come in a long length. I agree with Jillian – the RunningSkirts athletic skirt with the shorts under it is great. Finally, check out raodrunnersports.com. You can search by shorts length and they have everything. Really everything.

  5. Thank you so much for all of your suggestions! I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one with this problem 🙂
I have a running skirt that I bought a long time ago, but again it’s super short. I tried it out this morning and as predicted the shorts started riding up. I love the look of the running skirts so hopefully I can find a longer one on RunningSkirts! Let the shopping begin 🙂

  6. I wear compression shorts. I have a pair of tri shorts that I run shorter distances. One of my favorite pairs of compression shorts is my Under Armor pair. Good luck finding a pair that works!

  7. you should wear running skirts.com skirts, of course!
